Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Mrs Barrett,
I hope you are fine. I am writing to you that you advertised for someone to help you in your home for a few hours a day next summer. I want to pay gratitude in advance if you consider me for this position. I know a busy women can not complete house chores solely. I am a student of Masters class , due to high inflation i want a part time job in summer. After reading the add of this position I decided to join you in next summer because I am free from my course work at university. I know about many household chores like cooking, washing, and cleaning or any other work. Especially I am good in cooking and always try new recipes of different chefs. I usually cook Chinese food and some Spanish dishes. Apart from this I love to wash clothes and do groceries. I have also hold licence of car/ electric scooty. I just want to clear some points that I may not be available in weekend due to holidays of my own children's because I am a single mother and there is no one to take care of my kids . So that's a excuse in advance. I shall be very thankful to you if you consider me for this position.
Regards

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
You have addressed all three bullet points of the task: suggesting how you can help, explaining your motivation, and clarifying your availability. The tone is generally appropriate for a letter to a potential employer. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. For example, while you mention being able to cook and clean, expanding slightly on your experience or reliability would have strengthened the letter. The mention of your children is relevant to your availability, but the phrasing 'that's a excuse' is slightly informal and could be better expressed as a 'prior commitment' or 'family responsibility'. Overall, you have fulfilled the requirements of the task effectively.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The letter follows a logical progression, moving from the purpose of the letter to your skills, and finally to your availability. You use some basic cohesive devices such as 'Apart from this' and 'So', which help the flow. However, the paragraphing is non-existent; the entire letter is written as one block of text. To improve, you should use clear paragraph breaks to separate the introduction, the body of the letter (your skills and motivation), and the conclusion. Additionally, some transitions between sentences feel a bit mechanical, which prevents the writing from reaching a higher band.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'household chores', 'part-time job', and 'recipes'. There are some minor errors in word choice, such as 'I want to pay gratitude' (should be 'express my gratitude') and 'I have also hold licence' (should be 'I also hold a license'). While these errors do not impede communication, they show a lack of precision. To reach a higher band, try to incorporate more sophisticated collocations and ensure that your word forms are accurate, such as using 'advertisement' instead of 'add'.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors. For instance, 'I am writing to you that you advertised' is awkward; it should be 'I am writing regarding the advertisement you placed'. There are also issues with articles ('a Masters class', 'the add') and subject-verb agreement ('a busy women can not'). While your meaning is always clear, these recurring errors in basic grammar and punctuation prevent a higher score. Focusing on proofreading for subject-verb agreement and article usage would significantly improve your accuracy.
