Student answer (Band 7.0)

Dear Mrs Barrett,

I hope everything is going well with you. I am writing to let you know that I am available to help you in your home in next summer.

I could help you in cooking, cleaning, gardening and managing the other things as much as I can. I am punctual, quick learner and hardworking person. So, I would like to set a time of every activity, in this way I will finish work within time period. As a result, I could save time to do extra work for her for example, taking care of pets.

I would like to do this work because It not only helps me to rejuvenate my exhausted minds, but also to stay financial stable.

As I am studying, I will be available on weekends only because I have to go to school on weekdays.

I look forward to hear back from you soon.

Kind Regards,

Kamal

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.5

The letter addresses all three bullet points in the prompt. You clearly suggest how you can help (cooking, cleaning, gardening), explain your motivation (rejuvenation and financial stability), and state your availability (weekends only). The tone is appropriate for a semi-formal letter to a neighbor. However, the development of ideas is somewhat brief. For instance, the explanation of why you want the work could be expanded to sound more professional or personal. Overall, you have fulfilled the requirements of the task effectively, providing all necessary information in a clear and logical manner.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.5

The letter is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a closing. Each paragraph focuses on a specific requirement of the prompt. You use some cohesive devices such as 'As a result' and 'not only... but also', which help the flow of ideas. However, the transition between the second and third paragraphs could be smoother. The use of paragraphing is appropriate for a letter format. The overall progression of ideas is easy to follow, and the letter maintains a consistent focus throughout.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.5

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task. Phrases like 'rejuvenate my exhausted minds' and 'stay financial stable' show an attempt to use more sophisticated language, although there are minor errors in collocation and word form (e.g., 'financial' should be 'financially'). You use common vocabulary effectively to describe your skills and availability. To reach a higher band, try to incorporate more precise adjectives and avoid repetitive structures. The vocabulary used is sufficient to convey your meaning clearly without any significant misunderstanding.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are some grammatical errors, such as 'in next summer' (should be 'next summer') and 'I look forward to hear' (should be 'hearing'). Additionally, 'I am punctual, quick learner' is missing an article ('a'). While these errors are noticeable, they do not impede communication. Your control over basic sentence structures is good, and you attempt complex sentences, though they occasionally contain minor slips. Focusing on article usage and verb patterns after certain phrases will help improve your accuracy.
