You do NOT need to write any addresses.

Begin your letter as follows:

Dear Mrs Barrett,

Student answer (Band 6.5)

Dear Mrs Barrett,

I am writing this letter to express my interest in the advertise that you posted at our community hall last week.

I would like to help you to fix some of your furniture work. As I have a little knowledge about how to fix bed frames and dining table, I could be helpful to you with these kind of works.

In addition to this, as my father is a carpenter, and I also sometimes be his extra hand while he got some projects and while I have some spare time after my study, I prefer to work with him in his projects.

As you posted, I would suggest that I can fix your furniture with my little knowledge of some hardware tools. Furthermore, by helping you I can make not only my father, but also our community feel proud, and in future, if anyone want help I can be their first priority.

Please let me know if I could be helpful to you. I am available on weekends. I would feel happy if you allow me to do this work.

Sincerely,

Parth

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

You have addressed all three bullet points required by the prompt: suggesting how you can help, explaining your motivation, and stating your availability. However, the development of these ideas is somewhat limited. For instance, your explanation of why you want the work is slightly confusing, as you mention preferring to work with your father rather than Mrs Barrett. To improve, ensure your ideas are more focused on the specific request of the employer. While the purpose of the letter is clear, the content could be more persuasive and better tailored to the specific needs of an English-speaking resident in your town.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0

The letter follows a logical structure, with an introduction, body paragraphs, and a closing. You use some cohesive devices such as 'In addition to this', 'Furthermore', and 'As', which help the flow of the text. However, the transition between ideas is sometimes a bit mechanical, and the paragraphing could be more effectively used to separate the distinct points of the task. The progression of ideas is generally clear, but some sentences feel slightly disjointed, which prevents the response from reaching a higher band score.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.5

You have an adequate range of vocabulary to communicate your message, such as 'community hall', 'carpenter', and 'hardware tools'. However, there are several instances of awkward phrasing and word choice errors, such as 'the advertise' (should be 'advertisement') and 'these kind of works' (should be 'this kind of work'). You also use 'extra hand' correctly, but the overall range is somewhat limited and repetitive. To improve, focus on using more precise collocations and ensuring that nouns and verbs are used in their correct forms.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5

You attempt a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, which is good. However, there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally distract the reader. Examples include 'I also sometimes be his extra hand' (should be 'I sometimes act as his extra hand'), 'while he got some projects' (should be 'while he has projects'), and 'if anyone want help' (should be 'if anyone wants help'). While these errors do not impede overall communication, they are frequent enough to prevent a higher score. Focus on subject-verb agreement and consistent tense usage.
