Student answer (Band 7.0)
Dear ABC,
Good morning! I hope you are doing well. I am writing in response to your advertisement about a job. Firstly, I would be glad to join you to help you in your house. I am very good at decoration and wall painting. As I have pursued my master degree in Arts and Engineering. Moreover, I have C1 class certification for home arrangement skills.
Secondly, I could do the all arrangements for your home furniture with proper designation and creativity. Moreover, I could make numerous wall paintings according to your preferences especially in living room. I would also be able to help to structure your home with electronic appliances.
Lastly, currently, I am working part time job as IT manager. This is my full time job position; however, I would be available full time to work in upcoming summer. So, I am also looking for the job which can keep me occupied in the summer.
Thank you for your time and consideration. I am looking forward to hearing from you soon.
Yours sincerely,
ABC

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.5
You have addressed all three bullet points in the prompt: suggesting how you can help, explaining your motivation, and clarifying your availability. The tone is appropriate for a formal letter, and the ideas are relevant. However, the development of your ideas is somewhat limited. For example, while you mention your background in Arts and Engineering, you could have expanded more on how these specific skills would benefit Mrs Barrett's home. Additionally, you addressed the recipient as 'Dear ABC' instead of the name provided in the prompt, which is a minor oversight in task completion. Overall, the response is clear and fulfills the requirements of the task effectively.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.5
The letter is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. You have used transition signals such as 'Firstly', 'Secondly', and 'Lastly' to guide the reader through your points. While these are effective, the use of cohesive devices is slightly mechanical. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate different topics. The progression of ideas is easy to follow, and the letter maintains a consistent focus throughout. To improve, try to vary your linking words and use more sophisticated referencing to connect sentences more fluidly rather than relying on a list-like structure.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'advertisement', 'preferences', and 'consideration'. There are some minor inaccuracies in word choice, such as 'do the all arrangements' (should be 'make all the arrangements') and 'proper designation' (which seems to be a misuse of the word). You also use 'C1 class certification', which is slightly unclear in this context. While you attempt to use more specific vocabulary related to home improvement, some phrasing feels slightly unnatural. Expanding your range of collocations would help elevate your score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, such as 'As I have pursued my master degree' (a sentence fragment) and 'I could do the all arrangements'. Additionally, 'I am also looking for the job which can keep me occupied' contains a minor article error. While these errors are present, they do not impede communication, and the meaning remains clear throughout the letter. To reach a higher band, focus on eliminating sentence fragments and ensuring correct article usage and subject-verb agreement.
