Student answer (Band 8.0)
Dear Mrs Barrett,
I hope you are doing well. I am writing this letter regarding your advertisement for someone assist you at home next summer. I would be glad to offer my help, as I believe my skiils and experience make me a good candidate for this role.
I can help you with daily househole tasks such as housekeeping, preparing meals, laundry, and many more. Additionally, I could assist you with shoppoing, gardening, and organizing your home.
I am particularly intrested in this position because I enjoy helping elderly people and provide them overall support. It would also help me to strengthen my social relationships in community as well as improves my English-speaking skills.
I will be available from early June to late July, except for the first of June when I will not be available as I am visiting my family before starting my last semester. Apart from that, my schedule is flexible, and I can adjust my time at your convinience.
Thank you for your time and consideration. I would be grateful to assist you and looking forward to hearing back from you.
Yours sincerely,
Krupa.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 8.5
You have successfully addressed all three bullet points in the prompt. You clearly outlined the types of assistance you can provide, explained your motivation for wanting the role, and specified your availability. The tone is appropriate for a formal letter to a potential employer. The ideas are relevant and well-developed, ensuring the reader understands exactly what you are offering and when you are free. The letter follows the required structure and maintains a consistent, professional focus throughout, meeting all the requirements of the task.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 8.5
The letter is logically organized, with each paragraph focusing on a specific requirement of the prompt. You have used appropriate paragraphing to separate your introduction, the services offered, your motivation, and your availability. Cohesive devices such as 'Additionally', 'Apart from that', and 'Furthermore' (implied) help the text flow smoothly. The progression of ideas is clear, and the referencing is consistent throughout the letter. The structure is logical and easy to follow, which is a key requirement for a high band score in this criterion.
Lexical Resource — Band 7.0
You have used a sufficient range of vocabulary to convey your message clearly. While the vocabulary is generally accurate, there are a few spelling errors such as 'skiils', 'househole', 'shoppoing', and 'intrested'. These are minor slips that do not impede communication. To reach a higher band, try to incorporate more precise or sophisticated collocations. For example, instead of 'strengthen my social relationships', you could use 'expand my social network'. Overall, your lexical range is adequate for the task and demonstrates a good command of English for a general correspondence.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 7.0
You demonstrate a good mix of simple and complex sentence structures. Most of your sentences are clear and grammatically sound. However, there are some minor errors, such as 'someone assist you' (should be 'someone to assist you') and 'provide them overall support' (should be 'providing them with overall support'). Additionally, 'improves my English-speaking skills' should be 'improve' to maintain parallel structure with 'strengthen'. Despite these occasional slips, your meaning is always clear, and the errors do not interfere with the reader's understanding of your letter.
