Dear Mrs Barrett,
Student answer (Band 7.0)
Dear Barrett,
I hope you are doing well. I have been thinking about your advertisement for an assistance you need in your home for few hours a day in coming summer. As a student I get off in summer. So, I would like to help you in your some of the house hold chores.
Currently I am pursuing the hotel management course, so I can help you in cooking. I really enjoy preparing meals. I personally believe that it would be fun. We could try different healthy recipes together. As you are living with your family, it would be helpful for me too. By working there, I could learn how to serve the customers and complete the line efficiently. Apart from kitchen, I could help you in cleaning too.
I want to spend my summer productively. I have been planning to join dance classes too in the evening. I am available from 15 June to 30 July and my working hours would be 9am-4pm.
Please let me know what you think.I had love to give this a try. I am looking forward to hear from you.
Best Regards,
Rimple Gautam

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.5
You have successfully addressed all three bullet points in the prompt. You clearly outlined how you could help (cooking and cleaning), why you want the work (to spend the summer productively and gain experience), and your specific availability. The tone is appropriate for a letter to a potential employer. To reach a higher band, ensure that your ideas are fully developed; for instance, the connection between working in a home and 'learning how to serve customers' is slightly tenuous, as domestic work differs significantly from a commercial hotel environment. However, the response is relevant and covers all requirements effectively.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0
The letter is logically organized into clear paragraphs, each focusing on a specific aspect of the task. You use some cohesive devices such as 'Currently', 'Apart from', and 'As a student'. However, the flow between some sentences is slightly mechanical. For example, the transition between your desire to work and your availability could be smoother. Additionally, the salutation 'Dear Barrett' is slightly unnatural; 'Dear Mrs Barrett' would be more appropriate given the prompt. Overall, the progression of ideas is clear and easy to follow throughout the letter.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, such as 'pursuing', 'efficiently', and 'productively'. There are some minor issues with word choice and collocation, such as 'assistance you need' (should be 'an assistant' or 'assistance') and 'get off in summer' (which is informal; 'have the summer off' is better). While you attempt to use topic-specific vocabulary related to your studies, some phrasing remains slightly simplistic. The vocabulary is sufficient to convey your meaning clearly without any significant confusion for the reader.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, which is good. However, there are several grammatical errors that occur throughout the text. Examples include 'for few hours' (missing 'a'), 'in coming summer' (missing 'the'), and 'I had love to give this a try' (should be 'I would love'). Additionally, there are minor punctuation issues, such as the missing space after the period in 'think.I'. While these errors are noticeable, they do not impede communication, and the meaning remains clear throughout the letter.
