Dear Mrs Barrett,
Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Mrs Barrett,
I am writing this to convey my interest for helping in your home as a helper. I was looking for part-time job from such a long time which would not be exhausted to a greater extent as labor jobs in factory. About work at home, I can independently work in the kitchen once the menu is clearly stated. Further, I am glad to offer hand in housekeeping as per your standards.
I am immigrant in this country and to expand the source of income I want to do one more side job. At first place, I am working in the nursing home as support work for twelve hours a week.
As I am already working part time in nursing home from noon to night. Therefore, I am available in the morning in the week and on weekends I am flexible to work any hours of the day.
I am looking forward for your positive response.
Yours sincerely,
Jasleen Kaur

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
You have addressed all three bullet points in the prompt: suggesting how you can help, explaining your motivation, and clarifying your availability. The tone is appropriate for a formal letter to a potential employer. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. For example, while you mention housekeeping and kitchen work, providing a specific example of a task you excel at would have made your application more persuasive. Additionally, the explanation regarding your motivation is slightly unclear due to phrasing. To improve, ensure that each point is fully expanded with relevant details to demonstrate your suitability for the role.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The letter follows a logical structure, with clear paragraphing separating the introduction, the body points, and the conclusion. You use some cohesive devices, such as 'Further' and 'Therefore', to link ideas. However, the flow between sentences is occasionally interrupted by awkward phrasing, such as the transition between your current job and your availability. Some cohesive devices are used in a slightly mechanical way. To reach a higher band, focus on using a wider variety of linking words and ensure that the progression of ideas within paragraphs is smoother and more natural.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
Your vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing you to convey your meaning clearly. You use some relevant terms like 'housekeeping', 'part-time', and 'flexible'. However, there are instances of unnatural word choice and collocation, such as 'convey my interest for helping' (should be 'in helping') and 'labor jobs in factory' (should be 'manual labor jobs'). The phrase 'at first place' is also non-standard. To improve, focus on learning common collocations and phrases used in professional correspondence to sound more natural and precise.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors that affect the accuracy of your writing. Examples include 'I was looking for part-time job from such a long time' (missing articles and incorrect preposition usage) and 'I am immigrant' (missing article). There are also issues with sentence fragments and tense consistency, such as 'I am already working part time... from noon to night. Therefore, I am available...'. Improving your control over articles, prepositions, and sentence construction will significantly enhance your writing.
