Dear Mrs Barrett,
Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Mrs Barrett,
I hope you are doing good. I saw your advertisement for the help in your house. I am working as a cleaner in a company for full time but as a part time I worked in the houses especially for the garden cleaning. I can help you to clean your garden with cutting unusual grass, watering plants and flowers and cleaning sand as well.
Although, I am a cleaner but I am a nature lover as well due to which I love to do gardening. There are some reasons of working part time gardening. It helps me to stay calm and relax. While watering the plants I feel a confidence in me and the sweet and different fragrances of flowers give me a positive vibe.
I will be available on weekends for up to 4 hours a day but if you need more help then I can be there for extra hours because at the company I am working full time from Monday to Thursday in the mornings.
I hope we will meet soon Mrs Barrett.
Thank you
Anjali

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
The letter addresses all three bullet points of the prompt effectively. You clearly explain how you can help (gardening tasks), why you want the job (personal enjoyment and nature-loving), and your availability (weekends and potential for extra hours). The tone is appropriate for a formal letter to a potential employer. The ideas are relevant and well-developed, providing enough detail to satisfy the requirements of the task. To reach a higher band, ensure that the connection between your current full-time job and your availability is explained with slightly more precision to avoid any ambiguity regarding your schedule.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The letter is logically organized, with each paragraph focusing on a specific requirement of the prompt. The progression of ideas is clear, moving from the offer of help to the motivation and finally the availability. You use some cohesive devices such as 'Although', 'due to which', and 'while', which help link your ideas. However, the transition between the first and second paragraphs could be smoother, and some sentences feel slightly disjointed. Improving the variety of linking words would help the flow of the letter feel more natural and sophisticated.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'advertisement', 'nature lover', and 'fragrances'. There are some minor inaccuracies in word choice, such as 'cutting unusual grass' (which should be 'trimming overgrown grass') and 'cleaning sand' (which is likely 'clearing debris'). While the vocabulary is sufficient to convey your meaning clearly, it lacks the precision and variety required for higher bands. Attempting to use more specific collocations related to gardening or professional work would enhance your lexical score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While your meaning is always clear, there are several grammatical errors, such as 'I am working as a cleaner... but as a part time I worked' (tense inconsistency) and 'I feel a confidence in me' (incorrect preposition). Additionally, 'I hope you are doing good' is slightly informal; 'I hope you are well' is preferred. The errors do not impede communication, but they occur frequently enough to prevent a higher score. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and consistent tense usage will improve your accuracy.
