Student answer (Band 7.5)
Dear Mrs. Barnet,
I am writing to express my interest in the domestic helper position you recently advertised for next summer. As a local resident living just a few streets away. I would love to the opportunity to assist you in your home.
I can help with various household chores, including vaccuming, laundry and ironing. Additionally, I am happy to assist with meal preparation and run errands such as grocerry shopping.
I would like to do this work because I enjoy supporting members of our community, and as a student, a daily part-time role fits my schedule perfectly.
Regarding my availability, I will be free Monday to Friday, either morning or afternoons, from june 1st to August 31st. However, I will not be available on weekends or during the third week of july due to a holiday.
Thank you for your consideration, I look forward to hearing from you.
your sincerely,
Afroza

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 8.0
The response successfully addresses all three bullet points of the prompt. You clearly suggest how you can help (chores, meal prep, errands), explain your motivation (supporting the community and fitting your student schedule), and provide specific availability dates. The tone is appropriate for a formal letter to a neighbor. The ideas are relevant and well-developed, ensuring the reader understands exactly what you are offering and when you are available. You have fully satisfied the requirements of the task.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 8.0
The letter is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs for each requirement, and a polite closing. Paragraphing is used effectively to separate the different points. You use some cohesive devices such as 'Additionally', 'Regarding my availability', and 'However' to link ideas smoothly. The progression of information is logical and easy to follow throughout the text. The structure is appropriate for a formal letter, and the flow of ideas is consistent.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
You demonstrate a sufficient range of vocabulary to convey your message clearly. Phrases like 'domestic helper position', 'local resident', and 'meal preparation' are well-chosen and appropriate for the context. However, there are some spelling errors, such as 'vaccuming' (vacuuming), 'grocerry' (grocery), and 'june' (June), which prevent a higher score. While these errors do not impede communication, they indicate a need for more careful proofreading of common vocabulary items.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 7.0
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures effectively. There are a few minor grammatical slips, such as the sentence fragment 'As a local resident living just a few streets away.' which should be connected to the following sentence. Additionally, there is a punctuation error in 'Thank you for your consideration, I look forward to...' where a semicolon or full stop would be more appropriate than a comma. Despite these minor issues, the majority of your sentences are error-free and the meaning is always clear.
