Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Mrs Barrett,
I hope you are doing well. I am writing to show my interest for the advertisement of helping you in your home for a few hours a day during summer.
I have very good organizing skills. I can help you in all the stuff related to your home like packing, setting things in your house, cleaning, putting winter clothes away and also gardening. I love to decorate my house and any kind of work related to house.
Furthermore, I am a housewife and I spent my most of the time in my home. Moreover, I always try to do something creative. I am available to help you from June 1 to June 5 during day time. I am not available after that as I have already some plans for my vacations. Other than that I am ready to help you in all ways. If you want to ask something you can contact me anytime.
I will look forward to hear from you.
Yours sincerely,
Simran

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
You have successfully addressed all three bullet points in the prompt. You suggested specific tasks like cleaning and gardening, explained your motivation by mentioning your interest in creative home-based work, and clearly stated your availability for the first week of June. The tone is appropriate for a formal letter to a potential employer. To improve, you could provide slightly more detail regarding your experience or specific skills to make your application more persuasive, as the current ideas are somewhat brief. Overall, the response covers the requirements well and maintains a clear purpose throughout.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The letter is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a closing. You use basic cohesive devices such as 'Furthermore' and 'Moreover' to link your ideas. However, the transition between the second and third paragraphs is a bit abrupt. To reach a higher band, try to vary your linking words and ensure that each paragraph flows more naturally into the next. The use of paragraphing is appropriate, and the overall structure makes the letter easy to follow for the reader.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
Your vocabulary is generally adequate for this task, allowing you to communicate your intentions clearly. You use some relevant terms like 'organizing skills' and 'creative'. However, there is some repetition of basic words such as 'home' and 'work'. To improve, try to use more precise synonyms or collocations, such as 'household chores' instead of 'stuff related to your home'. Some phrasing is slightly unnatural, such as 'show my interest for the advertisement', which would be better expressed as 'express my interest in the advertisement'.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
You demonstrate a mix of simple and some complex sentence structures. While your meaning is always clear, there are several grammatical errors, such as 'I spent my most of the time' (should be 'I spend most of my time') and 'I have already some plans' (should be 'I already have some plans'). Additionally, 'I will look forward to hear from you' should be 'I look forward to hearing from you'. These errors do not impede communication, but they do indicate a need for more careful proofreading of verb tenses and word order.
