Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Mrs Barrett,
I hope this finds you well. I am writing to express my
Firstly, the advertised that I had came across mentioned that you want someone who can help you in the cooking as you are struggling with the fracture now and there is no one to look after your family. Owing to this, I think I am the perfect person to do this work as I posses some good culinary skills. Moreover, my intention behind doing this work for you is not about the money but to make your work easier by serving a good food to your family.
I would like to let you know that I am available on Monday to Friday from 2:00 pm to 10:00 pm, while I am totally available on the weekends. Let me know if this works for you.
Looking forward to your reply. Should you require any further details, please do not hesitate to contact me.
Yours sincerely,
Keertan Patel

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
You have addressed all three bullet points in the prompt: suggesting how you can help, explaining your motivation, and clarifying your availability. However, the opening paragraph is incomplete, as it cuts off after 'I am writing to express my', which is a significant omission. While the ideas provided are relevant, the development is somewhat limited. For example, you mention helping with cooking but do not elaborate on other potential household tasks. To improve, ensure all sentences are completed and provide slightly more detail for each requirement to demonstrate a more comprehensive response.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The letter follows a logical structure with clear paragraphing. You use some cohesive devices such as 'Firstly', 'Moreover', and 'Owing to this' to link your ideas. However, the flow is occasionally interrupted by grammatical errors and the incomplete opening sentence. The transition between the introduction and the body is disjointed due to the missing text. To reach a higher band, focus on ensuring that your sentences connect more smoothly and that your paragraphing remains consistent throughout the entire letter.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using words like 'culinary', 'intention', and 'fracture'. There are some minor inaccuracies, such as 'the advertised that I had came across', which should be 'the advertisement I came across'. You also use 'totally available' on weekends, which is slightly informal. While your vocabulary is sufficient to convey your message clearly, you should aim to use more precise collocations and ensure that your word forms are accurate to improve your score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
There is a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that detract from the quality of the writing. Examples include 'I had came across' (incorrect verb tense), 'struggling with the fracture' (article usage), and 'serving a good food' (unnecessary article). Additionally, the incomplete opening sentence is a major error in sentence construction. While these errors do not prevent the reader from understanding your meaning, they occur frequently enough to limit your score in this criterion. Focus on proofreading for basic tense and article consistency.
