Student answer (Band 5.5)

Dear Mrs Barrett

I am Jeel sevak writing this letter on behalf to express my concern about your advertisement that you need someone who can help you in your home few hours a day in next summer.I am very happy to do this as i always like to work in home every time i help my mom in any kind of help she want, so right now i am student but in next summer i am on my break so i am free for this.

I am the best person for this is because in my town me and you both know that most of the people can't able to understand English and you can only speak in English that's why i am the most suiteable guy for this work and as i told you before that i am familar with this work i can help you in cocking cleaning and any other help you want you in your home but the thing that i am not available for weekends because me and my family always go for picnic.

your sincerely

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

You have addressed all three bullet points in the prompt: suggesting help, explaining your motivation, and clarifying your availability. However, the development of these ideas is somewhat limited. For instance, while you mention helping with 'cocking' and 'cleaning', the explanation of why you want the work is quite brief and informal. To reach a higher band, you should expand on your skills and provide a more professional tone, as this is a formal letter to a potential employer. The content is relevant, but the overall tone is slightly too casual for a job application letter.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The letter is organized into two main paragraphs, but the flow is hindered by a lack of punctuation and run-on sentences. For example, the first paragraph is one long, continuous sentence that makes it difficult for the reader to follow your train of thought. You use some basic cohesive devices like 'that's why' and 'as I told you before', but the transitions between ideas are often mechanical. To improve, you should use full stops to separate distinct ideas and employ a wider range of linking words to create a smoother progression between your points.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

Your vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, but it is quite repetitive and contains some spelling errors, such as 'cocking' (cooking) and 'suiteable' (suitable). You rely on basic phrases like 'help you in your home' and 'any other help'. To improve, you should aim for more precise vocabulary related to household tasks and professional communication. For example, instead of saying 'I am the best person', you could use 'I am a highly suitable candidate'. Expanding your range to include more specific verbs and adjectives will significantly improve your score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

There are frequent grammatical errors throughout the letter, particularly regarding sentence structure, subject-verb agreement, and punctuation. You often omit necessary articles or use incorrect verb forms, such as 'can't able to understand' instead of 'are unable to understand'. Additionally, the lack of capitalization and proper sentence boundaries makes the text difficult to read. While you attempt some complex structures, they are often faulty. Focusing on basic sentence construction, ensuring every sentence has a clear subject and verb, and using periods correctly will help you achieve a higher band.
