Student answer (Band 7.0)
Dear Mrs Barrett,
I am writing in regards to your advertisement posted in the daily newspaper, searching someone who could help you out for few hours at home, in next summer.
I would be delighted to help you with some of the household chores such as laundry, dish washing, gardening and also cooking and taking your pet(s)out for a walk if needed.
I personally love decorating my home and it is something I indulge as it is therapeutic for me and keeps my mind as ease. I am a nature lover and would ensure your garden would be kept green and lucious. Moreover, I have a dog and I usually take him for a walk in the evening and therefore I could take your take along your pet for stroll if needed.
Since I am stay at home mom, I would be available for most of the days except for some sundays which I go to church. I reside just few miles away from your location, therefore I could reach you in a couple of minutes.
Looking forward to hear from you soon.
Your Sincerely,
Kelly. M.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.5
You have successfully addressed all three bullet points in the prompt. You clearly outlined the services you can provide, explained your motivation for the work, and specified your availability. The tone is appropriate for a formal letter to a potential employer. The ideas are relevant and well-developed, providing enough detail to satisfy the requirements of the task. The letter is well-structured and follows the conventions of a formal request, making your intentions clear to the reader throughout the response.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0
The letter is logically organized with a clear progression of ideas. Each paragraph focuses on a specific aspect of the task, which helps the reader follow your points easily. You use some cohesive devices, such as 'Moreover' and 'therefore', to link your sentences. However, the flow could be improved by using a wider variety of linking words to connect your ideas more fluidly. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the introduction, body, and conclusion, which contributes to the overall coherence of the text.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for this task. You use some specific terms related to household chores, such as 'laundry', 'dish washing', and 'gardening'. There are some minor inaccuracies in word choice, such as 'keeps my mind as ease' (should be 'at ease') and 'lucious' (spelled 'luscious'). While you successfully convey your meaning, the vocabulary is generally functional rather than sophisticated. To reach a higher band, try to incorporate more precise adjectives and collocations to describe your skills and motivations.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the majority of your sentences are clear, there are some grammatical slips, such as 'searching someone' (should be 'to search for someone'), 'in next summer' (should be 'next summer'), and 'take your take along' (a repetition error). Punctuation is generally correct, though there are minor issues with spacing after commas. Despite these errors, your meaning is never obscured, and the grammar is sufficient to communicate your message effectively. Increasing your control over articles and prepositions would improve your accuracy.
