Dear Mrs Barrett,
Student answer (Band 6.0)
Hello dear Mrs Barrett,
I am writing this letter because I have seen the advertisement which you have given in the news paper.
I happy to inform you that I would like to help you for your home purpose because I have some spare time for myself. Actually I have summer vacation in my collage so I would appreciate if you would allow me to give you hand and help for cleaning of the house or any other things if required.
I would be eager to do this work because I am having spare time for myself and by the way i use to clean my own house we never had a maid so we use to manage our own thing like we clean up the room, bathroom, garage and more. However my family use to keep house very tidy and i learnt from them many things .
Just one thing I would like to inform about the timings, i can help you full week from Monday to Friday from 4pm to 7pm and Saturday and Sunday will keep holiday for my school projects. HOPE to see you forward thank you.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
The letter addresses all three bullet points required by the prompt. You clearly suggest how you can help (cleaning and household tasks), explain your motivation (having spare time and experience), and specify your availability (Monday to Friday, 4pm to 7pm). The tone is generally appropriate for a letter to a neighbor, although it leans slightly informal. The ideas are relevant and sufficiently developed to meet the requirements of the task. To reach a higher band, ensure that the purpose of the letter is stated more concisely in the opening and that the transition between your motivation and your availability is smoother.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The letter is organized into logical paragraphs, which helps the reader follow your points. However, the use of cohesive devices is somewhat mechanical and repetitive. For example, you use 'I would be eager' and 'I would appreciate' in a way that feels a bit disjointed. The flow between sentences could be improved by using a wider variety of linking words such as 'furthermore', 'consequently', or 'regarding'. While the paragraphing is present, the internal structure of the paragraphs could be more cohesive to ensure a smoother progression of ideas throughout the text.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
Your vocabulary is adequate for the task, but it is somewhat limited and repetitive. Phrases like 'help you for your home purpose' and 'give you hand' are slightly unnatural. You rely on basic verbs and nouns to convey your meaning. To improve, try to incorporate more precise collocations related to household chores and professional communication. For instance, instead of 'give you hand', you could use 'assist you with household duties'. While your meaning is always clear, the lack of variety in your word choice prevents you from achieving a higher score in this criterion.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
There are several grammatical errors throughout the letter, such as 'in the news paper' (should be 'newspaper'), 'in my collage' (should be 'college'), and 'i use to clean' (should be 'I used to clean'). Your sentence structures are mostly simple, with some attempts at complex sentences that contain minor errors, such as 'I would appreciate if you would allow me'. While these errors do not impede communication, they are frequent enough to affect the overall fluency. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and consistent verb tense usage will significantly improve your accuracy.
