Student answer (Band 6.0)

Dear Mrs Barret,

I hope you are doing well. I have recently seen an advertisement regarding a helper you need at your home for a few hours a day next summer. I personally feel that I am the right person for this job as I can help you with the house chores and renovation work. Moreover, I am quite good at interior designing and will try to help you in exploring new ideas related to the upgradation of your house. Furthermore, I would love to do your work as I am passionate about interior designing with five years of professional experience so I will be able to connect u with a right people. Everything will be covered from minor details to the paint job by professionals.

I will be available only on the weekends as I have my classes to attend on weekdays. This will be a newer kind of experience for my CV as before I have always worked for the companies but I am looking forward to it. I will make sure that after renovation your house looks picture perfect.

Thankyou for your time. I will be waiting for your response.

Yours sincerely,

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

You have addressed all three bullet points required by the prompt. You clearly explained how you could help (chores and interior design), why you want the job (professional experience and interest), and your availability (weekends only). The tone is generally appropriate for a formal letter, though it leans slightly towards a job application style rather than a personal helper role. The ideas are relevant, but the transition between 'house chores' and 'interior design' is a bit abrupt. To improve, ensure your ideas are fully developed; for instance, you mention connecting her with 'right people' but do not clarify if you are acting as a project manager or a direct helper.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The letter is logically organized into clear paragraphs, which helps the reader follow your points easily. You use cohesive devices such as 'Moreover', 'Furthermore', and 'This will be' to link your ideas. However, some of the transitions feel slightly mechanical. The flow between the second and third paragraphs could be smoother; for example, the jump from discussing your professional experience to your availability is a bit sudden. Overall, the progression of ideas is clear, and the use of paragraphing is appropriate for a formal letter format.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'professional experience', 'renovation', and 'upgradation'. However, there are some minor inaccuracies in word choice and collocation. For example, 'upgradation' is less common than 'upgrading' or 'renovation', and 'connect u with a right people' contains a text-speak abbreviation ('u') and a grammatical error ('a right people'). To reach a higher band, focus on using more natural collocations and avoiding informal abbreviations, even in a semi-formal context.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, such as 'I personally feel that I am the right person for this job as I can help you...'. While your meaning is always clear, there are several grammatical slips, such as 'connect u with a right people' (article error and informal usage) and 'before I have always worked for the companies' (awkward phrasing). Punctuation is generally correct, but there are some minor issues with spacing and phrasing. Increasing the variety of complex structures while ensuring accuracy would improve your score.
