Student answer (Band 6.0)

Dear Madam,

The reason behind writing this letter to you is that yesterday, I read an add posted by you for help, as you are planning to move into another city. Actually, I am working as a load retailer in heavy weighted company, so I have experience in this field like how to pack your stuff and move it without any damage.

Honestly, I did not get any chance to meet you before, however, I heard a lot about your work ethics and your volunteer work for poor community. As I am also social profile, therefore, I want to help you.

Instead of working on weekends, I will be available for you on Tuesday and Thursday. I am busy for the rest of days because I am also running a charity house which has peak hours on above mentioned time. Moreover, you can contact me any time by my email or contact number. Looking forward to hear from you.

Thank you for considering my request.

Yours Faithfully,

Jyoti Sharma

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

You have addressed all three bullet points in the prompt: suggesting help, explaining your motivation, and clarifying your availability. However, the content is slightly misaligned with the task. The prompt asks for help in the home, but you focus heavily on 'moving' and 'heavy weighted' items, which sounds more like a professional removal service than general household assistance. Additionally, the tone is inconsistent; you begin with 'Dear Madam' despite the prompt providing the name 'Mrs Barrett', and you sign off with 'Yours Faithfully' instead of 'Yours Sincerely'. To improve, ensure your suggestions for help are more relevant to general home assistance and maintain a consistent, polite tone throughout.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The letter is organized into logical paragraphs, each focusing on a specific requirement of the prompt. You use some cohesive devices such as 'however', 'therefore', and 'moreover' to link your ideas. However, some transitions feel a bit mechanical or slightly unnatural, such as 'As I am also social profile'. The progression of ideas is generally clear, but the connection between your professional experience in moving and the request for household help could be smoother. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring that referencing is precise will help elevate your score in this criterion.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'work ethics', 'volunteer work', and 'charity house'. However, there are several instances of awkward word choice and collocation errors, such as 'load retailer in heavy weighted company' and 'As I am also social profile'. These errors occasionally hinder the natural flow of your writing. To improve, focus on learning common collocations and using more precise terminology for your professional background. Expanding your vocabulary to include more natural expressions for offering assistance would also be beneficial.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors, such as 'I read an add' (should be 'ad'), 'move into another city' (should be 'to'), and 'Looking forward to hear from you' (should be 'hearing'). There are also issues with article usage and preposition choice. While these errors do not prevent the reader from understanding your message, they are frequent enough to impact the overall accuracy. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and common verb patterns will help you achieve a higher level of grammatical control.
