Dear Mrs Barrett,
Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Mrs. Barrett,
I am writing this to respond your advertisement that i came across yesterday that you need someone for some hours, who can help you in your household chores in upcoming summer.
Primarily, I have excellent hands in cooking which allows me to prepare bundles of cooking items as i have completed my culinary course last year. Apart from this, i am very organized person, who prefer cleanliness and
always make sure to keep things tidy. I honestly believe that i would be great for the job requirements that you are looking for.
Moving further, i had my summer vacation started from July 1st to September1st. I would like to spend this time on something meaningful or on any part-time job because of this i was eagerly looking for any job.
If i get hired for this job then i will be available to work on mornings from 8am to 2pm from Monday to Friday. As, I am not available to work weekends due to my ongoing dance classes on Saturday and Sunday morning.
I look forward to hearing a positive response from you.
Your faithfully,
Deep

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
You have successfully addressed all three bullet points in the prompt. You clearly explained how you could help (cooking and cleaning), why you want the job (to spend time meaningfully), and your availability (mornings, excluding weekends). The tone is appropriate for a formal letter to a potential employer. To reach a higher band, ensure that your ideas are slightly more developed; for instance, you could briefly mention specific types of dishes you can cook or how your organizational skills have helped you in previous settings. Overall, the response is relevant and fully satisfies the requirements of the task.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The letter is logically organized with clear paragraph breaks for each point. You use some cohesive devices such as 'Apart from this', 'Moving further', and 'If I get hired'. However, some transitions feel slightly mechanical or repetitive. The referencing is generally clear, though the flow between sentences could be improved by using a wider variety of linking words to connect your ideas more naturally. The structure is easy to follow, and the progression of information is logical throughout the letter.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for this task, such as 'culinary course', 'household chores', and 'organized person'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'excellent hands in cooking' (should be 'excellent cooking skills') and 'prepare bundles of cooking items' (which sounds unnatural). You also have some minor errors in capitalization and punctuation. To improve, focus on using more precise collocations and ensuring that your word choices sound natural in a professional context.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is always clear, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with articles ('the upcoming summer'), subject-verb agreement ('I had my summer vacation started'), and pronoun usage ('i' should always be capitalized). There are also some issues with preposition usage and sentence fragments. While these errors do not impede communication, they occur frequently enough to prevent a higher score. Focusing on proofreading for basic grammar and capitalization will significantly improve your accuracy.
