Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Mrs Barrett,
I am writing this letter regarding your advertisement about needing someone for help in your home for couple of hours a day next summer.
To begin with, I am very good at this work. I can help you with cooking, and other help like chopping and other cooking stuff. Besides that, I can help you in cleaning such as washing dishes, sweeping, mopping, laundry, folding clothes and if you have kids I can be the great choice for you because I am a babysitter.
Moreover, I would like to do this job because I love to do household work and I have quite good experience with this of approximately 3 years. And I am also a babysitter, that is a plus point. I have completed Early Childhood Education. So, I would be great fit if you have children too.
Furthermore, I can be available from morning to evening till 4. After 4 I have to go for my other work respectively. If you think I am great fit for your job then kindly respond back.
Thank you
Yours faithfully

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
You have addressed all three bullet points of the task: suggesting how you can help, explaining your motivation, and clarifying your availability. The tone is appropriate for a formal letter. However, the development of ideas is somewhat repetitive; for example, you mention being a babysitter twice in close proximity. To improve, ensure each paragraph introduces distinct information rather than restating points. The purpose of the letter is clear, and the reader is left with a good understanding of your qualifications and availability. Overall, the response is relevant and meets the requirements of the prompt effectively.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The letter is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a closing. You use basic cohesive devices such as 'To begin with', 'Moreover', and 'Furthermore' to transition between ideas. While these are functional, the flow is occasionally mechanical. The paragraphing is appropriate, separating the different requirements of the prompt. To reach a higher band, try to vary your linking words and ensure that the progression of ideas within paragraphs is smoother, avoiding the slight redundancy noted in the content. Referencing is generally clear, and the structure supports the reader's understanding throughout.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'household work', 'Early Childhood Education', and 'advertisement'. However, there are some instances of imprecise word choice, such as 'cooking stuff' and 'great choice', which are slightly informal or vague. The repetition of 'help' and 'great fit' limits the sophistication of your writing. To improve, aim for more precise collocations and a wider variety of descriptive language. While the vocabulary is sufficient to convey your message clearly, it lacks the precision and flexibility required for higher band scores.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are some grammatical inaccuracies, such as 'regarding your advertisement about needing someone for help' (which is slightly awkward) and 'I have quite good experience with this of approximately 3 years'. Additionally, there are minor errors in article usage and phrasing, such as 'the great choice'. While these errors do not impede communication, they are noticeable. To improve, focus on sentence construction and ensure that your complex sentences are grammatically sound. Increasing the variety of your sentence structures while maintaining accuracy will help elevate your score.
