Dear Mrs Barrett,
Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Mrs Barrett,
I hope this letter finds you well. I am reaching out to express my interest in a job opportunity you advertised in the newspaper.
I believe I have the enthusiasm and dedication required for this opportunity. I can help you according to your will. I am adept in all house hold works. I can help you in cooking, washing laundry, and cleaning of home. I am reliable and hard worker. In addition, I like to perform my duties efficiently.
I would be free in next summer for two months. I want to spend that time meaningfully and appropriately. It would be a good change from my busy student life. I also appreciate to help people in their work.
I would recommend five days a week, because in remaining two days I will complete my other tasks regarding studies. I hope you will consider my eagerness. Hope to hear from you soon.
Yours sincerely,
Sobia.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The letter covers all three bullet points required by the prompt: suggesting help, explaining the motivation, and detailing availability. The tone is appropriate for a formal letter to a potential employer. However, the development of ideas is somewhat basic. For instance, the explanation of why you want to do the work ('I want to spend that time meaningfully') is a bit brief. To reach a higher band, you could expand on your personal qualities or specific experience to make your application more persuasive. Overall, the task is addressed clearly and the purpose of the letter is evident throughout.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The letter is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a closing. Paragraphing is used, though the indentation is inconsistent. You use some cohesive devices like 'In addition' and 'because', which help the flow of ideas. However, the transition between sentences is sometimes a bit mechanical, and the overall structure could benefit from more sophisticated linking words to connect your availability to your willingness to work. The progression of ideas is easy to follow, but the paragraphing needs to be more clearly defined to improve the visual structure of the letter.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is adequate for the task but lacks variety and precision. You use simple phrases like 'help you in cooking' and 'house hold works'. While these are understandable, they do not demonstrate a wide range of vocabulary. There are also some minor collocation issues, such as 'appreciate to help people' (should be 'enjoy helping people'). To improve, try to incorporate more specific professional terminology related to household management or personal assistance. The spelling is generally accurate, but the range of words remains at a functional level rather than a sophisticated one.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
You demonstrate a mix of simple and some complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, such as 'I can help you according to your will' (which sounds unnatural) and 'I am reliable and hard worker' (missing an article: 'a hard worker'). Additionally, 'I would be free in next summer' should be 'in the next summer' or 'next summer'. While these errors do not impede communication, they occur frequently enough to prevent a higher score. Focusing on article usage and subject-verb agreement will significantly improve the accuracy of your writing.
