Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Mrs Barrett,
I am writing this letter to inform you that I saw your advertisment that you need someone to help you in home for few next summer and I am available to help you few hours a day.
I have worked for several people so I have an experience of taking care of the house I can cook well and can manage other house chores like cleaning, laundry, dishes as well as gardening.
I am currently studying and after my classes I have few hours which I want to invest in something productive. As a student I can't work much hours so I think this work fits best for me as I am getting an opportunity to earn also
which will help me pay my next semester fees.
I have my classes from 10AM till 2pm after that I get break for almost 3-4 hours so that time I can work for you also on weekends I can work anytime, so you can call me whenever you need.
I would appreciate if you could consider me as I will try my best to meet your expectations.
Yours faithfully

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
You have successfully addressed all three bullet points in the prompt. You clearly outlined how you could help (cooking, cleaning, gardening), explained your motivation (earning money for tuition), and provided your availability. The tone is appropriate for a formal letter to a potential employer. To reach a higher band, ensure that your ideas are slightly more developed; for instance, you could briefly mention your enthusiasm for the specific tasks or provide a bit more detail about your previous experience to make your application more persuasive. Overall, the response is relevant and fulfills the requirements of the task effectively.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The letter is logically organized, with each paragraph focusing on a specific aspect of the prompt. You use basic paragraphing effectively to separate your introduction, experience, motivation, and availability. However, the use of cohesive devices is somewhat limited and occasionally repetitive. To improve, try to use a wider variety of linking words and transition phrases (e.g., 'Furthermore', 'Consequently', 'In addition to this') to connect your ideas more fluidly. Currently, the progression of ideas is clear, but the transitions between sentences could be more sophisticated to enhance the overall flow of the text.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
Your vocabulary is adequate for the task and allows you to communicate your message clearly. You use relevant terms such as 'advertisement', 'chores', and 'productive'. However, there are some minor errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'I have an experience of taking care' (should be 'I have experience in taking care') and 'much hours' (should be 'many hours'). To achieve a higher band, try to incorporate more precise vocabulary related to household management or professional communication. The current range is sufficient for the task but lacks the flexibility and precision required for higher bands.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While your meaning is always clear, there are several grammatical errors throughout the text, such as missing articles ('in home' instead of 'in your home') and minor punctuation issues. Some sentences are slightly clunky, such as 'I am writing this letter to inform you that I saw your advertisment that you need someone'. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and the correct use of articles will help improve your accuracy. Despite these errors, your grammar does not impede communication, and you successfully convey your intended meaning to the reader.
