Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Mrs Barrett,
I hope this email finds you well.
I am writing to apply for the position of house help you are looking for at your house. I came across your advertisement at the local newspaper Times of India. I am very much intested in applying for the position.
I have worked as a house help for almost 15 years of my life. I am well versed at keeping the house clean and tidy. Also, I can cook different cuisines upon requests, In addition, I do all sorts or house hold activities like doing laundy and folding clothes, dropping and picking kids from their school, stocking up groceries and food items, weathering plants and much more. Furthermore, I could also provide references of my previous clients upon request.
Moreover, I would like to work for you is because I like helping people and making their lives easier especially if somebody is in need. Me personally, I like to live in a clean and upto date home and because of helping nature I feel like contributing towards the society. But more importantly, I take pride in what I do to make people's lives more comfortable and easier.
Lastly, I have a flexible schedule to work. I can work all days a week except on Sunday as I have to attend my church with my family but otherwise I am available to work any shift from monday to saturday.
I hope you will consider my request and give me the opportunity to work for you. I look forward to hearing from you.
Your's faithfully,
Sankalp Diwate.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
The letter successfully addresses all three bullet points of the prompt. You clearly outline your potential services, such as cleaning, cooking, and childcare. You provide a clear motivation for wanting the job, and your availability is explicitly stated. The tone is appropriate for a formal letter to a potential employer. To reach a higher band, ensure that your ideas are slightly more concise; for instance, the explanation of your motivation is a bit repetitive. However, all requirements of the task are fully met.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0
The letter is logically organized with clear paragraphing. Each paragraph focuses on a specific aspect of the prompt, which helps the reader follow your points easily. You use a range of cohesive devices such as 'Furthermore', 'Moreover', and 'Lastly' to link your ideas. While some transitions are slightly mechanical, the overall progression is clear. To improve, ensure that your referencing is precise; for example, 'because of helping nature' is a bit awkward and could be better connected to the previous sentence.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate a sufficient range of vocabulary to communicate your points effectively. Phrases like 'well versed', 'stocking up groceries', and 'flexible schedule' are appropriate for the context. There are some minor errors in word choice and spelling, such as 'intested' (interested), 'house hold' (household), 'laundy' (laundry), and 'weathering plants' (watering plants). These errors do not impede communication, but they do prevent a higher score. Focusing on proofreading for spelling and common collocations will help you improve.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While many sentences are clear, there are several grammatical slips, such as 'I would like to work for you is because' (a redundant 'is'), 'Me personally' (informal/incorrect structure), and 'Your's faithfully' (incorrect possessive). Additionally, there are minor punctuation issues, such as the comma splice in 'upon requests, In addition'. Despite these errors, the meaning is always clear, and the grammar does not hinder the reader's understanding of your message.
