Dear Mrs Barrett,
Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Mrs Barrett,
I am writing to express my strong interest in enhancing your newly constructed home for the next summer. Recently, I saw an advertisement published in a local newspaper last week. I believe based on past work experience and skills, I would be more suitable for the work you're intended to finish next summer.
I can help you designing interior of bedroom and kitchen area based on your choices. Furthermore, I will make sure that air will be ciruculated throughout your house using clean vents which keeps the home temperature lower. Additionally, all the pre-requisites like installing microwave, washing machine and dryers will be provided as a free service which other companies charge for it.
I believe no other individual contractors can give the best services as I can. Moreover, the amount of work I charge is based on the number of hours completed rather than the entire day. Our team is professional and trained to finish the intended work with cleanliness.
Usually I am used to move based on the number of contracts signed in the town. However, I prefer to work on weekdays for clients and to take days off on weekends as I need to devote family time to look after my two children.
I have applied to the advertisement along with my personal information including a phone number and email address. I am looking forward to hearing from you.
Yours faithfully,
Viral

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response addresses all parts of the task prompt, covering suggestions for how you could help in the home, reasons for wanting to do the work, and availability details. However, the interpretation of the task leans slightly towards commercial contractor services rather than domestic help (e.g. mentioning 'cleaning vents', 'installing microwave, washing machine and dryers', and 'Our team is professional'), which somewhat misinterprets the persona of an individual helper advertised by Mrs Barrett. Despite this slight misinterpretation of the specific context, all bullet points are covered with extended ideas, meeting the requirements of a Band 6.0.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The letter is generally coherent and arranged in a logical sequence with distinct paragraphing. Each paragraph has a clear focus, moving from an introduction to proposed services, business claims, availability, and a closing statement. However, cohesion is sometimes faulty or mechanical. For instance, the transition 'Usually I am used to move...' is awkward, and referencing in sentences like 'charges for it' is slightly unclear. Paragraphing is used appropriately throughout, supporting a clear overall progression, which aligns well with the Band 6.0 descriptors.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The student uses an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, attempting some less common phrases such as 'pre-requisites', 'newly constructed home', and 'contract signed'. However, there are noticeable word choice and collocation inaccuracies, such as 'enhancing your newly constructed home' (likely meaning helping in the house) and 'the work you're intended to finish' instead of 'intend to have finished'. Spelling and word-choice errors do not impede communication, but they restrict the lexical score to a Band 6.0.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The writing displays a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, such as conditional and relative clauses. There are several grammatical errors and awkward structures throughout the text, including 'I can help you designing interior' (missing preposition 'with' and gerund form error), 'air will be ciruculated' (spelling slip and passive voice minor clumsiness), and 'which other companies charge for it' (redundant pronoun). Although these errors are frequent, they rarely impede communication, allowing the response to comfortably secure a Band 6.0.
