Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
The candidate addresses all parts of the prompt effectively. Regarding how you could help, the writer mentions assisting with daily household chores and leveraging their background in recreational therapy. For the second bullet point, the motivation is clearly explained through their dream to become a registered physiotherapist. Finally, availability is outlined, mentioning evening availability and four-hour shifts. The tone is appropriate for a semi-formal letter to a local resident. While some ideas like the financial motivation for physiotherapy are slightly personal, they fit the context well and fulfill the task requirements successfully, earning a solid band score for this criterion.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The letter is generally clear and easy to follow, with a logical organization divided into short paragraphs that correspond to different ideas. The writer uses basic cohesive devices like 'Also', 'Although', 'Apart from that', and 'Lastly'. However, paragraphing could be structured more cleanly, and some transitions feel a bit mechanical or abrupt, such as 'Right now, I am working...'. Referencing is mostly clear, but overall cohesion lacks the flexibility and sophistication expected at higher bands, placing this response firmly in the band 6 category.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary used is adequate for the task, demonstrating some less common lexical items such as 'recreational therapy', 'physiotherapy assistant', and 'household chores'. However, there are notable spelling and word choice errors throughout the text, including 'Bareett' (Barrett), 'finds' (find you), 'independancy' (independence), 'regestered' (registered), 'convinienence' (convenience), and 'avaibility' (availability). These errors show that while the writer has a sufficient range to communicate their message, control over spelling and precise word forms is inconsistent, capping the lexical score at band 5.5.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The response includes a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, such as concessive clauses ('Although, currently I am working full-time, still I have a time...') and relative clauses ('...which provide treatment...'). However, grammatical accuracy is weak, featuring frequent errors such as subject-verb agreement issues ('I hope you finds well', 'we both lives'), tense and modal errors ('I can able to do'), missing articles, and awkward punctuation. These frequent errors cause some difficulty for the reader and prevent the grammar score from rising higher.
