Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Mrs Barrett,
My name is Manjeet. I just read about the ad you posted on Facebook Marketplace, which states that you require someone to assist you with household duties next summer.
I have great experience in house cleaning and cooking, as I am currently working as a house helper. I can also look after your children if required, as I an certified ECA. Moreover, I can speak and understand English properly, thus you will not face any communication barriers to explain the duties to me.
My current house owner is going for a trip for four months at the start of summer and will not return until the start of October. This is the reason I am looking for part-time work.
I am available to work on weekdays because i am working somewhere else on weekends.
I hope my schedule would match your requirements and expect to hear from you soon.
Your faithfully,
Manjeet..

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
The response covers all parts of the prompt well. You successfully suggested how you can help Mrs Barrett by mentioning house cleaning, cooking, and childcare. You also explained why you would like to do this work, noting that your current employer will be away for four months. Finally, you clearly stated your availability by noting that you are available on weekdays but not on weekends. The tone is appropriate for a semi-formal letter, and all bullet points are addressed effectively, making this a solid performance for Task Achievement.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The letter follows a clear logical organization with appropriate paragraphing. Each paragraph serves a distinct purpose, moving from the introduction to the offered services, the motivation for work, and finally availability. Cohesive devices such as 'Moreover', 'thus', and 'This is the reason' are used to connect ideas, though the flow between some sentences could be smoother. The sign-off, although slightly flawed in phrasing ('Your faithfully'), still follows standard letter-writing conventions.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully using terms such as 'household duties', 'communication barriers', and 'part-time work'. There are a few minor lexical inaccuracies, such as using 'house owner' instead of 'employer' or 'landlord', and 'certified ECA' which contains a minor grammatical slip. However, these vocabulary choices do not impede communication, and the overall register remains polite and appropriate for a job inquiry.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The writing includes a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, such as 'I just read about the ad you posted on Facebook Marketplace, which states that you require...' There are a few grammatical errors and typos throughout the text, including 'as I an certified' instead of 'as I am certified', and lowercase 'i' in 'because i am working'. Despite these occasional errors, the majority of sentences are clear, and your meaning is easily understood by the reader.
