Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The candidate successfully covers all three bullet points required by the task. You suggest practical ways to help around the house, mentioning that 'I can really help you with this things' such as cooking, laundry, and looking after kids. You also clearly state the motivation for taking the job, explaining that you want to stay busy during the college break and save money for an expensive new laptop. Furthermore, your availability is outlined effectively, noting that you are free on weekdays but unavailable on weekends due to cricket training sessions. The tone of the letter is generally appropriate for a semi-formal correspondence, beginning with 'Dear Mrs Barrett' and ending with 'Your faithfully'. While there are some minor mechanical errors, all aspects of the prompt are fully addressed, warranting a solid band 6.5.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The letter has a coherent overall arrangement and follows a logical progression, with paragraphs dedicated to separate ideas such as household chores, reasons for working, and availability. Cohesive devices are used, although some are slightly mechanical or repetitive, such as 'In addition', 'Therefore', and 'And last thing'. Referencing is mostly clear, though some transitional links feel a bit abrupt. Paragraphing is adequately managed to separate the different sections of the letter, creating a readable and structured piece of writing. Minor improvements in linking sentences more naturally would elevate this score further, but the current organisation clearly communicates your thoughts.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary used is adequate for the task, successfully conveying meaning despite several noticeable errors and spelling mistakes. You attempted some less common vocabulary items, but there are issues with spelling and word choice, such as 'advertisment' instead of advertisement, 'expeirence' instead of experience, 'moping' instead of mopping, and 'aidful' instead of helpful or useful. Additionally, phrases like 'in such of person' contain grammatical and lexical inaccuracies where 'in search of a person' was intended. While these errors do not severely impede communication, they restrict the lexical score because of the frequency of basic spelling slips and slightly awkward collocations.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The response features a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but it is marred by frequent grammatical errors. Examples include 'you are in such of person who can help', 'I leave alone' instead of live alone, 'i can even look after you kids' instead of your kids, and 'I would free form my college' instead of free from. Punctuation errors are also present, such as the incorrect use of commas after introductory phrases and clauses in places like 'I would like to mention that, I leave alone'. Although some complex sentences are successfully attempted, the high density of basic grammatical slips and spelling inaccuracies means that errors are present in almost every sentence.
