Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Mrs Barrett,
Hope you are doing well.I am writing this letter to inform you that i have keen interest in your posting as a house helper as I saw advertisement which you gave .
I had a experience as a house helper before so that i know the duties such as organization ,clenliness,re-stocking . I will organise your cupbords as well as clean the house and re-stock your fridge .
i will be more than thankfull to you if you will hire me because i need this summer job to cop-up my study fees as a international student its really dificult to find a job without referance. In add to that , i do have enough time during summer to do well financially so that i can get enough time for study during winter.
i will be available in next summer during week days anytime according your preferance but i will not be available on weekends.
Hope you will consider me as your house helper .
Thank you ,
Bhranti patel .

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The candidate successfully covers all three bullet points required by the task prompt. First, you suggest ways you can help in the home, mentioning specific tasks such as organising cupboards, cleaning, and restocking the fridge. Second, you state why you would like to do this work, explaining that you need a summer job to cope with study fees as an international student. Third, you explain your availability, stating clearly that you are available on weekdays during next summer but not on weekends. Although some ideas are fairly straightforward and could be extended further, all parts of the prompt are addressed appropriately and the tone of the letter is generally suitable for the context. This performance aligns well with the requirements for a Band 6.0.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The letter exhibits a coherent overall arrangement with clear organisation of ideas into separate paragraphs, each addressing a different part of the prompt. You use some basic cohesive devices, such as 'In add to that', to connect your ideas. However, paragraphing is somewhat rudimentary, and some transitions feel a bit mechanical. Referencing and linking between sentences can occasionally be awkward, such as the transition into the discussion about study fees and lack of references. There are also minor punctuation and spacing errors around commas and periods that affect the smoothness of the text. Overall, the logical progression is clear enough to follow easily, supporting a Band 6.0 score.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
Your lexical range is adequate for the task, successfully conveying your message regarding the job application. You attempt some less common vocabulary items and domain-specific phrases, such as 'international student', 'financially', and 'preferance'. However, there are notable spelling errors throughout the text, including 'clenliness' instead of cleanliness, 'cupbords' instead of cupboards, 'thankfull' instead of thankful, 'cop-up' instead of cope up or cover, 'dificult' instead of difficult, 'referance' instead of reference, and 'preferance' instead of preference. While these errors do not impede communication since the reader can easily understand your meaning, their frequency prevents you from achieving a higher band. This corresponds to a Band 5.5 descriptor.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, for example when writing 'I will be more than thankfull to you if you will hire me because i need this summer job to cop-up my study fees'. There are several grammatical inaccuracies and punctuation errors, such as missing capitalisation for the pronoun 'i', incorrect conditional structures ('if you will hire me'), and awkward phrasing like 'so that i can get enough time for study during winter'. However, these errors do not impede overall communication, and you successfully manage to express your thoughts across different tenses and clauses. This performance is characteristic of a Band 5.5 level.
