Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The candidate successfully covers all three bullet points required in the task instructions. First, the student suggests how they could help in the home by utilizing management skills to arrange items and decorate according to Mrs Barrett's taste. Second, the reason for wanting to do the work is clearly stated, explaining a desire to help others, gain peace of mind, and build community bonds. Third, availability is explicitly addressed by stating that the writer is unavailable on weekdays due to university classes, but fully available on weekends. The tone is appropriate for a semi-formal letter, and all parts of the prompt are adequately addressed, earning a solid band score for task fulfillment.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The letter demonstrates a logical overall arrangement, opening with an appropriate salutation and closing. Ideas are grouped into distinct paragraphs covering the introduction and purpose, the reasons and volunteering background, and finally availability. However, cohesion is sometimes mechanical or faulty. Run-on sentences and punctuation issues are present, such as in the sentence beginning with 'Actually I am student of management so I have good management skills...'. Reference pronouns are occasionally unclear, and transitional devices could be used more flexibly and accurately to guide the reader smoothly through the text.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The lexical range is adequate for completing the task, demonstrating attempts at less common vocabulary such as 'international student', 'management skills', and 'peace of mind'. However, there are noticeable spelling and word choice errors throughout the letter, including 'appriciate' instead of 'appreciate', 'arragne' instead of 'arrange', 'decor' instead of 'decorate', and 'avaibality' instead of 'availability'. Additionally, some phrasing is slightly unnatural, such as 'helping hand person' and 'on this new land'. These errors do not impede communication but prevent the vocabulary score from reaching a higher band.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The writer attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, such as conditional and causal clauses using 'because' and 'whereas'. However, grammatical accuracy is inconsistent. There are several run-on sentences connected by comma splices or coordinating conjunctions without proper punctuation, such as 'I am Kushang Patel, an international student in this city, recently I have watched your advertisement...'. Other errors include missing articles ('I am student of management'), incorrect prepositions, and minor spelling issues in tense markers. While communication is not severely impeded, the frequency of grammatical errors keeps the score at this level.
