Student answer (Band 6.5)

Dear Mrs Barrett,

Hope you are doing well. My main concern of writing this letter is to show my interest in the job position which you advertise in local newspaper to take of your children and home in your few hour's absence during next summer.

As you mention in asvertisement, you has been searching someone who take care of your toddler and 8 years son. I would absolutely take care both of them very well. Not only do I take responsibility of their food, but I also make a learning schedule according to their preferences. For home, I would be happy to give water to plants along with doing some other house chores such as cleaning children's room.

I have 2 year's diploma in child care form Toronto university and looking an opportunity of work to gain some experience. I believe, working with your children would not only give me chance to earn ,but it also provide me valuable experience which I might use for future references.

I have an availability 5 days in a week from Monday to Friday at any time but if you want me to work on weekend , i would only do after 5 pm.

I hope I would get an opportunity to work

regards,

Lovedeep.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0

You successfully covered all parts of the task prompt in your letter to Mrs Barrett. You clearly suggested how you could help in her home by mentioning that you would take care of her toddler and eight-year-old son, prepare food, create a learning schedule, and water plants. Furthermore, you explained your motivation by stating that you want to gain practical experience and use it for future references. Finally, you outlined your availability clearly by specifying your weekday and weekend schedules. Your tone is appropriate for a formal application letter. However, some minor grammatical and lexical inaccuracies prevent this response from reaching the highest bands, but all bullet points are fully and effectively addressed. Your ideas are well developed and relevant throughout the letter.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0

Your letter demonstrates a clear overall organization with logical progression from the opening purpose to your specific skills, experience, and availability. You made good use of paragraphing to separate distinct ideas, such as your duties in the first body paragraph, your qualifications in the second, and your availability in the third. Cohesive devices such as 'Not only do I...', 'For home, I would be happy to...', and 'I believe...' are used effectively to connect your thoughts. Although referencing is occasionally slightly repetitive ('you', 'your'), the flow of the letter remains natural and easy to follow. Paragraphing is used sufficiently and appropriately to group related ideas together.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

You demonstrated an adequate range of vocabulary suitable for the task, successfully attempting less common items such as 'preferences', 'references', and 'diploma in child care'. However, there are noticeable word choice and collocation errors, such as 'advertisement' spelled as 'asvertisement', 'take of' instead of 'take care of', 'give water to plants' instead of 'water the plants', and 'form' instead of 'from'. Despite these minor lexical errors and spelling slips, communication is never impeded, and your meaning remains clear throughout the letter. A slightly wider control of natural collocations would push your score higher.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0

You attempted a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, including inverted structures like 'Not only do I take responsibility...', which demonstrates a good ambition for grammatical variety. However, there are several grammatical errors scattered throughout the text, such as missing articles ('advertised in local newspaper', 'looking an opportunity'), tense and agreement issues ('you has been searching', 'both of them'), and punctuation spacing errors before commas. These errors occur frequently enough to prevent the grammar score from reaching a higher band, although they do not obscure the overall meaning of your message. Your control of simple structures is generally secure, but complex structures require more precision.
