Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0
The response effectively covers all bullet points outlined in the task prompt. You successfully suggested ways you can help Mrs Barrett around her home, mentioning tasks such as cooking, organizing the kitchen, watering plants, and running errands like bringing groceries or walking the dog. You also clearly stated why you would like to do this work, explaining that you are saving money for your next semester fees and that the position will help improve your English-speaking skills. Furthermore, your availability is clearly communicated, specifying weekdays from Monday to Friday between 9 am and 5 pm, while noting your weekend work commitment at a restaurant. All parts of the task are well-addressed with relevant and clear ideas, resulting in a solid performance for this criterion.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The letter maintains a clear and logical organization throughout, following standard informal-to-formal letter-writing conventions. The response is divided into logical paragraphs, beginning with an appropriate salutation and opening statement, followed by body paragraphs addressing your skills, motivations, and availability, and concluding with a polite sign-off. Cohesive devices and referencing are generally handled well, such as using 'Moreover' to introduce an additional reason and 'If you need' to transition between household tasks. While some transitional links are basic and paragraphing could be slightly refined for smoother progression, the overall structure allows the reader to follow your message easily.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
The vocabulary used is adequate for the task, successfully communicating your message with terms like 'strategic management', 'hands-on experience', and 'reasonable work'. However, there are some noticeable word choice and collocation errors, such as writing 'interest for the Job advertisement you given in the indeed' instead of 'interest in the job advertisement you posted on Indeed', and 'watering to plants' instead of 'watering plants'. You attempt some less common expressions, but minor inaccuracies in preposition usage and phrasing keep the lexical range at a competent level without achieving higher flexibility and precision.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
The response features a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating your ability to construct multi-clause sentences, such as 'If you need any help from outside the home like bringing groceries or taking dog to walk.' However, there are several grammatical errors and punctuation slips present throughout the text. Examples include tense and agreement errors like 'I am studing' instead of 'studying', missing articles ('taking dog to walk' instead of 'taking the dog for a walk'), and incorrect sign-off capitalization ('Your's faithfully'). Despite these errors, they rarely impede communication, and the meaning remains clear to the reader.
