Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
You have addressed all parts of the task prompt, which is a key strength. You successfully suggested how you could help Mrs Barrett by offering your typing skills, explained why you would like to do the work due to your passion and desire to improve your future skills, and stated your availability for next summer. However, some ideas are under-developed or expressed with limited clarity, such as the slightly confusing phrasing 'When you speak about woman any kind of topic'. Despite these minor limitations, the purpose of your letter is clear throughout, and the tone is generally appropriate for a letter to an advertiser. Overall, this performance aligns well with the criteria for Band 5.5 to 6.0, touching upon all prompt requirements successfully.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
Your letter has a coherent overall arrangement, and you have attempted to divide your ideas into distinct paragraphs, including a standard greeting and sign-off. However, paragraphing is not always used in the most logical way, and the transition between ideas can feel a bit abrupt or mechanical. For instance, jumping from typing skills to your general job status makes the progression slightly choppy. Cohesive devices are sometimes inaccurate, such as 'that's way I wants to help you', or missing where clearer logical links should connect your sentences. Referencing is also occasionally unclear, making it harder for the reader to follow your exact meaning in places. This level of organisation and cohesion is typical of a Band 5.5 performance.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully attempting some less common words and phrases such as 'opportunity', 'passion', and 'advertisement'. However, there are noticeable spelling and word choice errors throughout the text, including 'hounarable' instead of honourable, 'interested' instead of interesting, and 'successfull' with an extra 'l'. Furthermore, some phrases are awkward or unnatural, such as 'my job has ending'. While these lexical inaccuracies do not completely prevent the reader from understanding your message, they occur frequently enough to restrict your score to Band 5.0.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, incorporating relative clauses and conditional structures. However, your writing contains frequent grammatical errors and inaccurate verb forms, such as 'I am writing a letter to you, I see an advertisement' (comma splice), 'it helps you alot', 'I wants', and 'When you wants me to start work with you can just call me'. Punctuation errors are also present, including missing capitalisation on the pronoun 'i'. These frequent errors frequently cause some difficulty for the reader and demonstrate limited control over complex grammatical structures, placing your grammar performance firmly at Band 5.0.
