Dear Mrs Barrett,
Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Mrs Barrett,
I am writing this letter in response to your advertisement regarding the need for a helper for your home. I am a student with Australian nationality, and efficient in the english language so it will be convenient to have a conversation with you. I can help in your regular household chores, organizing your home, and assisting your children in their studies. Currently, I am pursuing a postgraduate degree in sciences which enables me to help your kids with their projects and assignments. Nowadays, almost all the children are addicted to mobile phones which is a major concern of parents. If your kids will get an offline helper with their studies then they will not only reduce their screen time, but also it will help them to improve their overall personality.
I am a certified home science student so I love to manage the interior with eye-catching handmade items, and this job will definitely help me to polish my talent. Moreover, I need work to meet my academic as well as my personal expenses.
While the college keeps me busy for six days a week from 8:00 AM to 1:00 PM, I can manage the working hours from 4:00 PM to 9:00 PM. As my almost the whole week is occupied, I need a Sunday off for my personal space.
I hope you to find me suitable for your requirements, and looking for your prompt response.
Yours sincerely,
Pratibha Sharma

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
The response fully covers all three bullet points required in the task instructions. You successfully suggest how you could help in Mrs Barrett's home by mentioning household chores, organizing, and assisting her children with studies. You clearly explain why you would like to do this work, noting your background as a student, your desire to polish your talent in home science, and your need to meet academic and personal expenses. Furthermore, you explicitly detail your availability, giving precise working hours (4:00 PM to 9:00 PM) while explaining when you will not be available due to college and the need for a Sunday off. The tone is appropriate for a formal letter to an individual, and ideas are fully developed and relevant. This performance satisfies the criteria for Band 7.5 to 8.0, and here a solid Band 7.0 is awarded for adequately developing all parts of the prompt.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The letter is clearly organised into logical paragraphs, with a discernible progression from the purpose of the letter and proposed help, to motivations, availability, and a polite closing. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate distinct themes. Cohesive devices are used reasonably well, such as 'Moreover', 'While', and 'As', though some transitions feel slightly mechanical. Referencing throughout the text is generally clear, allowing the reader to follow your schedule and intentions easily. To reach a higher band, cohesive devices could be integrated with greater flexibility and subtlety. Overall, the organisational structure is logical, supporting clear communication of your message.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.5
You demonstrate an adequate to good range of vocabulary suitable for the task. Expressions like 'postgraduate degree', 'screen time', 'eye-catching handmade items', and 'personal expenses' show a solid lexical resource. However, there are a few minor inaccuracies and awkward phrasing, such as 'efficient in the english language' (instead of 'proficient in English') and 'as my almost the whole week is occupied' (instead of 'almost the whole week is occupied'). Despite these occasional errors, the vocabulary is sufficient to convey your meaning clearly, and you successfully attempt less common phrases such as 'polish my talent'.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
You display a good mix of simple and complex sentence forms, utilizing relative clauses and conditional structures such as 'If your kids will get an offline helper...'. However, there are some noticeable grammatical errors and awkward structures, notably 'If your kids will get' (where the present simple should follow 'if') and 'I hope you to find me suitable' (which should be 'I hope you find me suitable'). Punctuation and article usage also exhibit minor slips. While these errors do not impede communication, they prevent the grammar score from reaching the higher bands where error-free complex sentences predominate.
