Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

The letter covers all three bullet points from the prompt effectively. You successfully suggested how you could help Mrs Barrett by offering to clean the house, prepare meals, and look after her children. You also explained why you want to do the work, mentioning your healthcare background, a desire to earn money for expenses, and your sociable nature. Finally, your availability is clearly stated, noting weekdays from Monday to Friday while excluding weekends due to another commitment. The tone is appropriate for a semi-formal letter, and the purpose is clear throughout. Minor awkwardness in phrasing does not prevent the achievement of the task, placing this clearly at Band 6.0.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The letter is logically organised into separate paragraphs that correspond to the different bullet points of the task. Cohesive devices such as 'Also', 'So', and 'Finally' (implicitly structured) are used to connect ideas, though some transitions feel a bit mechanical or basic. Referencing is generally clear, with phrases like 'this work' and 'this field' linking back appropriately. However, paragraphing and overall progression could be smoother to reach a higher band. The letter reads cohesively overall, satisfying the requirements for Band 6.0.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully attempting less common items such as 'healthcare field', 'extrovert and social person', and 'consideration'. However, there are noticeable spelling and word choice errors, such as 'yesterdasy' instead of 'yesterday', 'prepare' instead of 'preparing', 'coversation' instead of 'conversation', and 'expenese' instead of 'expenses'. Furthermore, some collocations are slightly unnatural, such as 'doing this job and help families in their household works'. These lexical errors occasionally distract the reader, supporting a Band 5.5 score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

The response features a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating some variety. However, there are several grammatical errors and awkward structures throughout the text. For example, 'I am writing this letter that I saw your advertisement' contains a redundant and incorrect relative clause structure. Additionally, there are tense and agreement slips such as 'I will available full day'. Punctuation is generally fine, but the frequency of grammatical inaccuracies means that errors are noticeable and require the reader to occasionally pause, which aligns with the Band 5.5 descriptors.
