Dear Mrs Barrett,
Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Mrs. Barrett,
I am Krupa Maisuria live in your town last 5 years. I am writing to response to your advertisement for someone to help in your home for few hours a day next summer. I would be very interested in this opportunity.
I enjoy helping people and I love to do household chore activities such as cleaning, dusting, washing clothes and preparing simple meals. I would also happy to help with gardening or any other tasks that you may need assistance with.
I would be like to do this work because it gave me experience about how to manage home during my summer holiday. In addition, as you are an English-speaking person, this would be an excellent opportunity for me to improve my English language by communicating with you regularly.
Regarding my availabilities, I am free from Monday to Friday between 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. throughout most of the summer. However, I will not available during the first week of June because I have to attend my music classes. Apart from that week, I should be able to work regularly.
Hoping a positive respond from you. Please let me know if you want to know any further details related to my availabilities.
Thank you.
Yours sincerely,
Krupa Maisuria

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
You successfully covered all parts of the task prompt, addressing the suggestions for how you could help, why you want to do the work, and your specific availability. The tone of the letter is appropriate and polite. However, some ideas are more fully developed than others, which places your response at this level. For instance, while your availability is well detailed with specific days and times, your explanation of how you can help relies on a simple list of chores like 'cleaning, dusting, washing clothes' without extending those ideas further. To reach a higher level, you need to fully develop all parts of the task with more detailed elaboration and extension of your ideas.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
Your letter shows a coherent overall arrangement with a clear structure that opens and closes appropriately. You have used paragraphing logically to separate different aspects of the letter, such as introduction, chores, reasons, and availability. However, cohesion is sometimes mechanical or faulty. For example, the transition between ideas could be smoother, and referencing is not always completely clear. Furthermore, the closing sentence 'Hoping a positive respond from you' is slightly fragmented and lacks a fully connected cohesive link. To improve, you should employ a wider and more flexible range of cohesive devices and ensure that referencing throughout the text is consistently clear and natural.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You used an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully communicating everyday concepts relating to household chores and work availability. You made some attempts to use less common vocabulary, such as 'opportunity' and 'regularly'. However, there are notable word choice and word form errors that prevent you from achieving a higher score. For example, you wrote 'response' instead of 'respond' in the phrase 'writing to response', and 'availabilities' instead of the uncountable noun 'availability'. There are also minor spelling and collocation issues like 'Hoping a positive respond'. These inaccuracies do not impede communication, but to move up you need to demonstrate greater precision and fewer errors in your lexical choices.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
You attempted a mix of simple and complex sentence forms throughout the letter, such as conditional and subordinate clauses like 'In addition, as you are an English-speaking person, this would be an excellent opportunity...'. There are, however, several grammar errors present in your writing. For instance, you missed the verb 'to' and an article in 'I am Krupa Maisuria live in your town last 5 years', made a tense and preposition error in 'it gave me experience about how to manage', and missed a verb in 'I will not available during the first week'. These errors in grammar and punctuation occur across the text, though they rarely impede communication. To reach a higher band, you need to produce a higher proportion of error-free sentences and demonstrate better control over complex structures.
