Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
Your letter successfully addresses all parts of the prompt. You suggest how you could help Mrs Barrett by mentioning cleaning and cooking, you explain why you would like the job to stay productive during your summer break and earn some money, and you outline your availability by stating that you are free on weekdays but busy on weekends. However, some parts of your response are slightly under-developed. For instance, your explanation of how you can help could be extended with more specific tasks or details about your experience. To reach a higher band, ensure that every bullet point is fully expanded with well-supported ideas that give the reader a clearer and more comprehensive picture.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
Your letter has a coherent overall arrangement with a clear attempt to organise your thoughts into logical paragraphs. You use basic cohesive devices to connect your points, such as 'Apart from this' and 'Moreover', which helps the reader follow your letter easily. However, referencing and cohesion are sometimes a bit mechanical or faulty, as seen in abrupt transitions and sentences that trail off at the end. To move to the next level, you need to ensure smoother progression between ideas and more natural referencing throughout the text, while also avoiding incomplete sentences like the final unfinished phrase.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use an adequate range of vocabulary for this task, attempting some less common words and phrases such as 'productive', 'cuisine', and 'opportunity'. However, there are noticeable spelling and word-choice errors that occasionally distract the reader, such as 'househelp', 'familar', 'choares', 'communcation', and 'strenghthan'. These errors do not completely impede communication, but they restrict your score. To achieve a higher band, you should expand your vocabulary range, pay closer attention to correct word forms and spellings, and use more precise terms naturally in context.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You demonstrate a mix of simple and some complex sentence forms, such as 'I am writing to express my interest...' and 'As i have permanent part-time job on weekend to would be not able to work on weekends.' There are several errors in grammar, articles, and prepositions, including missing articles ('advertised in newspaper'), incorrect prepositions ('in any time', 'on weekend'), and awkward verb patterns. While these errors do not heavily impede communication, they occur frequently enough to keep your score at this level. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence structures, ensuring correct subject-verb agreement, and reducing errors in your complex sentences.
