Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Mrs Barrett,
I hope you are doing well. I am writing this letter in response to your advertisment regarding the need of house help in your home.
I would like you to consider me for this role because I have relevent work experience. I have worked as a care taker with an olderly couple. My duties were to help them in their household including their personal hygiene and health. I had a great experience working with them, until they moved to other city due to some uncertain circumstances.
I could help you in your mentioned tasks because I have a diploma in this field as well. So despite being on job, I would love to do my favourite tasks. Furthermore, your desired working hours are well matching with my schedule except the weekends. On satudays, I usually had to travel to meet my parents so If you want, we can discuss this issue later.
Please let me know when you want to have a meeting for further discussion.
I am looking forward to hearing from you.
Kind regards.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
The response successfully covers all parts of the prompt, fulfilling the core requirements of a general correspondence task. You clearly suggested how you could help Mrs Barrett by mentioning your background as a caretaker and experience with personal hygiene and health duties. You also explained why you want the work, pointing to your diploma and your passion for these tasks. Furthermore, your availability is outlined, specifically noting your weekend plans. However, some ideas remain slightly under-developed; for example, the explanation of how you can help could have included more specific household tasks beyond caretaking. To reach the next level, you need to extend all your main points more fully and provide a slightly deeper elaboration of your motivations and availability.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The letter maintains a coherent overall arrangement with a clear purpose established right from the opening greeting. Information is organized logically into paragraphs that move from the purpose of the letter to your experience, availability, and finally a call to action. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'Furthermore' and 'So', though referencing is occasionally a bit mechanical. Paragraphing is generally appropriate, keeping distinct ideas separated. To move higher up the scale, you need to make the progression of ideas smoother and ensure that cohesive devices are used more naturally and flexibly throughout the text, avoiding slight abruptness between sentences.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
Your vocabulary is adequate for the task, successfully conveying your message to the reader. You attempt some less common vocabulary items such as 'circumstances' and 'diploma', which demonstrates a reasonable range. However, there are some noticeable word choice and spelling inaccuracies that prevent a higher score, such as 'advertisment' (advertisement), 'relevent' (relevant), 'care taker' (caretaker), 'olderly' (elderly), and 'well matching' (match well). These errors do not impede communication, but they show a lack of precision. To achieve a higher band, you need to use a wider range of vocabulary with greater precision, better control of word forms and spelling, and more natural collocations.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.5
You demonstrate a satisfactory mix of simple and complex sentence forms, utilizing structures like 'I would like you to consider me because...' and 'On saturdays, I usually had to travel...'. There are some errors in grammar and punctuation, such as tense consistency issues ('I usually had to travel' instead of 'usually have to') and preposition usage, but these errors rarely impede communication and the meaning remains clear. To reach the next level, you must produce a higher frequency of error-free sentences, improve your control over verb tenses across complex clauses, and ensure proper capitalization of days of the week like 'saturdays'.
