Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
The response addresses the main parts of the task by suggesting how you could help around the house, mentioning reasons for wanting the work, and outlining availability. However, the ideas are somewhat limited and under-developed. For instance, the points about shopping and taking Mrs Barrett to the hospital are stated rather than extended. Furthermore, the purpose of the letter is partially obscured in the opening sentences by referring to 'english women' rather than addressing Mrs Barrett directly about her specific advertisement. To move to a higher level, you should fully develop each bullet point with more specific details and explanations.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The letter displays some basic organization with paragraph breaks used for different ideas, such as your proposed help, your reasons, and your availability. However, there is no clear overall progression between the ideas, and the logical flow is sometimes disrupted. Cohesive devices are used minimally or repetitively, such as the repeated use of 'As you know' and 'Furthermore'. Referencing is also unclear at times, particularly in the opening lines where the connection between the advertisement and Mrs Barrett is loose. To improve, you need to use a wider range of cohesive devices more accurately and ensure smoother transitions between your paragraphs.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is limited but minimally adequate to convey your basic message. You attempt some task-related words such as 'domestic helper', 'residence area', and 'tuition fee', but there are noticeable errors in word choice and phrasing, such as writing 'domestic helper which is needed by english women' and 'these kind of job'. There are also occasional awkward collocations and word formations. To achieve a higher band, you need to use a wider and more precise range of vocabulary, demonstrating better control over word choice and style suited to a formal letter.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The response shows a limited range of grammatical structures, relying mostly on simple sentences with frequent attempts at complex forms that turn out faulty. There are noticeable errors throughout, such as missing articles ('i am student', 'Due to have financial problem'), incorrect verb tenses and forms ('Since you taking your therapy', 'i have to mycollege'), and punctuation issues. These frequent errors cause some difficulty for the reader and distract from the message. To progress, you need to improve your control over basic sentence patterns, verb phrases, and article usage to produce error-free sentences more consistently.
