Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Mrs Barrett,
I am writing this letter to inform you that today I saw your advertisement regarding househelper for a few hours a day next summer.
As i have a little experience with cleaning house as well as i know about gardening, so i can help you with this. Moreover, I know about cooking so if you need help with that i can help as well. Also, i know you have 2 kids so it is hard to take care of them while working but i have an experience with day care.
I am really intreasted to do this work as i'm studying in WPS programe so it will help you in my cource as well. Apart from that, I also need to work part time to pay my course fees so it can help me a lot.
As i already metioned that i'm a parttime student I can only work after 2pm to 8pm. In morning i have class so due to that reason i can not be available in morning.
Let me know wht do you think, I would love to help you in your house work.
looking forward to your responce.
Your's Faithfully,
Desai sahil

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
You address all three points: you offer help with cleaning, gardening, cooking and childcare; explain that the work would support your studies and course fees; and give your available hours. These details make the letter relevant and purposeful. The childcare offer is a useful addition, although the reference to Mrs Barrett’s two children assumes information not stated in the task, and your reasons for wanting the job could be linked more clearly to your suitability. Availability is also only partly explained: you say you cannot work in the morning, but do not clarify whether you are available on particular days or throughout the summer. The response covers the task well overall, with some points less fully developed than others.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The letter has a clear overall arrangement: you introduce the advertisement, describe the help you can offer, explain your motivation, and finish with your availability and a closing. Paragraphing supports this progression, and linking expressions such as “Moreover,” “Also,” and “Apart from that” help connect related points. At times, however, the links feel mechanical, and several ideas are crowded into long sentences, particularly the paragraph about household tasks and childcare. The final availability paragraph would be clearer if the hours and days were stated in a more direct order. A more conventional closing sequence would also make the ending feel more smoothly connected to the letter’s purpose.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use enough vocabulary to communicate the main ideas, including “advertisement,” “gardening,” “part time,” and “course fees.” However, the range is limited and several word choices or forms are inaccurate, which makes the letter less natural: “househelper” is not the usual term, “cleaning house” needs a more natural expression, and “do this work” is repeated. Spelling errors such as “intreasted,” “programe,” “wht,” and “responce” are noticeable and may briefly distract the reader. Aim to learn common phrases for domestic work and employment, and check spelling and word forms carefully. More precise vocabulary would make your offers and motivation sound clearer and more professional.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt both simple and complex sentence forms, for example, “I am writing this letter…” and the sentence beginning “As I have a little experience…”. The meaning is generally understandable, but some grammatical errors remain. The opening clause “As I have… so I can…” uses two structures that do not fit together; write “As I have some experience…, I can…”. There are also problems with capitalisation and sentence boundaries, such as the lowercase “i” and the run-on construction in the availability paragraph. The phrase “I can only work after 2pm to 8pm” needs a clearer time pattern, such as “from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m.”. Practise accurate complex clauses and proofread punctuation and sentence structure.
