Dear Mrs Barrett,

Student answer (Band 6.5)

Dear Mrs Barrett,

I am writing to response to your advertisement for someone to help you in your home next summer. I would be interested in this position and provide you with a great assistance at home.

I could help you to complete daily routine taskes, such as cleaning, laundry, and shopping for groceries. Furthermore, I also completed a six month certificate in cooking, so I can prepare lots of dishes at home. In the end, I am very familiar with pets, so if you have a dog or cat at home, I can also take care of them.

I would like to do this work because I love helping people in theri daily basic needs. Moreover, I also get a chance to gain the experience of household chores and develop a good communication skill while working with people who belong to different culture.

I would like to mention my availability. I would be available Monday and Tuesday. However, I can come on weekends by a phone call if you need me. I can work less than 8 hours in a day.

I look forward to hearing from you.

Yours sincerely,

Sandeep

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0

You address all three points clearly: you offer help with cleaning, laundry, shopping, cooking and pet care; explain that you enjoy helping people and want household experience; and give days and a daily-hours limit. These details make the letter relevant and give Mrs Barrett a clear sense of what you can offer. The reason about developing communication skills with people from different cultures is also included, though it is less directly connected to this particular job than your other reasons. Your availability could be more precise: “Monday and Tuesday” does not say whether these are the only weekdays you can work, and “by a phone call” leaves the weekend arrangement unclear. Clarifying the dates or hours would make the response more fully developed.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0

The letter has a clear progression: you introduce your interest, describe possible duties, explain your motivation, and then set out your availability. Separate paragraphs help the reader follow these points, and linking expressions such as “Furthermore,” “Moreover,” and “However” show how ideas relate. The closing is appropriate for a formal letter. Some connections are less natural or precise: “In the end” does not introduce the pet-care point effectively, while “I would like to mention my availability” is a somewhat mechanical transition. The weekend sentence also follows the weekday information without fully explaining how the two arrangements fit together. Use simpler, more direct transitions and make the availability details connect clearly.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use enough vocabulary to cover the household duties and your reasons, including “laundry,” “groceries,” “certificate in cooking,” and “household chores.” This gives the letter a useful range for the topic, but several word choices, collocations, and spelling errors reduce naturalness. For example, “a great assistance” is not idiomatic, “daily routine taskes” is awkward, and “daily basic needs” does not express your meaning naturally. There are also spelling errors in “theri” and “taskes.” Aim for accurate, conventional phrases rather than combining several near-synonyms, and check spelling carefully. More precise wording would make your offers and motivation sound more fluent and professional.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.5

You use a mix of simple and more complex sentence forms, including a conditional clause in “if you have a dog or cat at home” and a contrast introduced by “However.” Most sentences communicate your meaning, and the paragraph structure supports readability. Some grammatical errors remain, including “I am writing to response” (use “to respond”), “I would be interested in this position and provide” (the verb forms do not match), and “I can come on weekends by a phone call” (the preposition pattern is incorrect). The phrase “a six month certificate” also needs a hyphen when used before a noun. Review verb patterns after “to” and “would,” and check articles and prepositions. Greater accuracy in these areas would build on the range you already show.
