Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Mrs Barrett,
I hope you are doing well. My name is Utsavsinh chavda, and I live just a few streets north to your house. I came next to a advertisement template attached to the street light that mentioned about some help that you require for a couple of hours next summer. I am writing this letter to inform you that I would be more than happy to help you and alleviate your workload.
As I live by myself, I am ought to do all the household chores by myself including, cleaning, cooking, washing utensils, ironing clothes, gardening and even shoveling snow in winters. Consequenlty, I can help you in cutting the grass of your yard as you mentioned in the advertisement.
I have a hobby of gardening and maintaing my backyard where I have planted some plants. I love to spend time in my backyard especially in summers when the weather is at its best.
Considering my availability next summer, I would be working in the weekdays from monday to friday and I would be out on vacation in the month of may for two weeks. However, I am fully available on weekends
from morning to evening when I can come to help you at your residence.
Thank you for your time and you can let me know if you need anything else.
Regards,
Utsav

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
The letter addresses all three requirements: you offer help with household tasks, explain your interest through your gardening hobby, and give your weekday, weekend, and May availability. The offer to cut the grass is especially relevant, and your reason for wanting the work is clear. However, the help you could provide is not fully developed: you list several chores you do at home, but only explicitly offer to cut the grass. Your availability is also somewhat confusing because you say you will be working Monday to Friday, then say you are fully available at weekends; clarify whether you can work only at weekends or at particular weekday times. A more direct, specific offer would make the response more complete.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The letter has a clear overall structure, with an opening, separate paragraphs for your offer and motivation, and a closing availability paragraph. The sequence is generally easy to follow, and phrases such as “Considering my availability” help signal a change of topic. Some connections are less clear or feel mechanical, however. For example, “Consequently” does not clearly link your experience doing chores to the specific offer of cutting grass, and the transition from your gardening hobby to your availability could be smoother. The availability paragraph also combines weekday work, a May vacation, and weekend availability in a way that makes your schedule harder to interpret. Use clearer links and organise the schedule into a direct statement of when you can work.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You use an adequate range of vocabulary for the letter, including relevant terms such as “household chores,” “ironing,” “gardening,” and “alleviate your workload.” The gardening vocabulary supports your explanation of why you want the work. There are some inaccurate or unnatural choices that reduce precision, such as “came next to a advertisement template,” “mentioned about,” and “maintaining my backyard.” Spelling errors in “Consequenlty” and “maintaining” also show that word forms and spelling need checking. Aim for natural collocations and a suitably polite tone: for example, say that you “saw your advertisement” and “would be pleased to help with gardening and household tasks.”
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and more complex sentence forms, including the sentence beginning “As I live by myself” and the clause “when I can come to help you.” Meaning is generally clear, but some grammatical errors remain. In “I live just a few streets north to your house,” the preposition pattern is incorrect; “north of your house” is needed. “I am ought to do” should be “I have to do,” and “a advertisement” needs the article “an.” The sentence about your weekday work and weekend availability also needs clearer grammatical framing so the contrast is easy to understand. Check articles, prepositions, and sentence boundaries, while retaining the longer structures you have attempted.
