Student answer (Band 6.0)

Dear Mrs Barrett,

I am writing this letter in respond to the advertisement published by you regarding the help that you required next summer. I am keenly intersted in providing you with the assistance.

To begin with, I am really comfortable in doing the household chores plus can also you with the shopping and also knows how to work on the appliances and how to fix them. As, it would be a great oppurtunity for me to learn something new and not only it will help me gaining the experience but will also fulfill my personal satisfaction as I love helping people.

On the other hand, I would be available from 1st June to 15th of August during the weekdays and not on the weekends. As, I have already made some other commitment from which I cannot back down. If you would like we can further talk about the schedule.

Please let me know what you think about my suggestion. I will eagerly wait for your response.

Thank you,

Sam

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

You address all three points: you offer household chores, shopping and appliance-related help, explain that you enjoy helping people and want experience, and give a date range plus weekday availability. The purpose is clear and the ideas are relevant. However, some details are less fully developed than others. For example, “helping people” and “learn something new” are broad reasons, and the appliance offer could be clarified by saying what tasks you can safely do. The availability is useful, but “some other commitment” does not explain which weekends or dates are unavailable. Adding one or two specific details would make the offer more complete and persuasive.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The letter has a clear overall arrangement: an opening, a paragraph about your skills and motivation, a paragraph on availability, and a polite closing. This makes the main information easy to locate. You also use linking expressions such as “To begin with,” “On the other hand,” and “As.” However, some connections feel mechanical or do not express the relationship accurately; “On the other hand” introduces availability rather than a contrast, while “As” begins sentence fragments. The skills and reasons are also crowded into one long paragraph. Use simpler, more precise transitions and separate the practical offer from your motivation to create smoother progression.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use relevant vocabulary for the task, including “household chores,” “assistance,” “commitment,” and “available,” so the reader can understand the offer. There is some range, but several word-choice, collocation, and spelling problems reduce precision: “in respond” should be “in response,” “comfortable in doing” is less natural than “comfortable doing,” and “fulfill my personal satisfaction” is awkward. “Intersted” and “oppurtunity” are misspelled, and “help” is repeated. These errors do not prevent understanding, but they show that control of vocabulary is not yet consistent. Aim for accurate, natural phrases and proofread spelling carefully.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt both simple and more complex sentence forms, including a sentence with “not only … but also” and a conditional offer: “If you would like, we can further talk about the schedule.” The main message remains understandable, but some grammatical errors affect accuracy. For example, “can also you” has incorrect word order, and “also knows” does not agree with the subject “I.” The sentence beginning “As, I have already made…” is incomplete, and the long sentence about learning and gaining experience is not well controlled. Avoid starting a sentence with “As” when it leaves a dependent clause, and check subject–verb agreement and sentence boundaries.
