Dear Mrs Barrett,
Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Mrs Barrett,
I am writing to show my interest for a house work support you posted on indeed website last weekend.
I have been living in North York for the past five years. I am currently studying hotel management at university. I will be having holidays for a couple of months next summer. I would like to offer you some help for your household chores. I am keen on hospitality and helping people in need. I am sure I will be able to help you with gardening, cooking or organising your home. I will busy in the evening after 4pm because I have already applied to schedule my car driving lessons. However, I will be available to work on weekdays anytime before 3pm. I am available to support at your earliest.
Please let me know if you any questions. Kindly send me the details of duties you are willing to assign it to me.
Thank you for your time and consideration.
Yours sincerely,
Payal Bhakta

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
You address all three requirements: you suggest household help such as gardening, cooking and organising, explain your interest through your hospitality studies and enjoyment of helping people, and give a clear weekday schedule with evenings unavailable. These details make the letter relevant and purposeful. The availability information is particularly specific, although “anytime before 3pm” could be clarified as applying to weekdays throughout the summer. Your reasons for wanting the work are relevant but brief, and the proposed duties could be linked more directly to your skills or experience. The response therefore covers the task well, while some ideas remain less developed than they could be.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The letter follows a sensible sequence: you state your purpose, provide background and offer help, explain your schedule, then close with a request and thanks. Paragraphing and conventional letter openings and endings help the reader follow the message. Connections such as “However” clearly introduce your evening unavailability. Some transitions are less smooth: the move from your studies to your availability is abrupt, and “I am available to support at your earliest” does not clearly connect to the recipient’s next steps. Grouping your background and motivation separately from duties and availability, and using a clearer closing request, would make progression more natural. Overall, the organisation is coherent, though some cohesion is mechanical or unclear.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You use an adequate range for this practical letter, including relevant terms such as “household chores,” “hospitality,” “gardening,” and “organising your home.” The vocabulary communicates your intentions, and the tone is generally polite. There are, however, several inaccurate or unnatural choices: “interest for a house work support” and “available to support at your earliest” do not express the intended meaning naturally. “People in need” may also sound as though Mrs Barrett requires charitable assistance rather than paid household help. Choose more precise collocations and describe your interest as gaining practical experience or providing household assistance. These word-choice issues do not prevent understanding, but greater naturalness and precision would strengthen the letter.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and more developed sentence forms, including “I have been living in North York for the past five years” and the contrast introduced by “However.” Most of the message remains understandable, but some grammatical errors are noticeable. For example, “I will busy” needs the verb “be,” while “Please let me know if you any questions” is missing “have.” In “the details of duties you are willing to assign it to me,” the clause structure and pronoun use are faulty; write “the duties you would like me to do.” There is also a tense/meaning issue in “I will be having holidays.” Proofread for missing verbs and keep sentence patterns complete to improve accuracy.
