Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Mrs Barrett,
I recently saw your advertisement that you are seeking someone to help you in house chores during next summer. Therefore, i am writing this letter to show my interest in this job opportunity. I completely understand this is a part-time position, which is why its a suitable position for myself.
Moreover, i have an experience in cleaning, moping, doing lawn, doing dishes, and washing clothes because i have been doing this work at my house from last couple of years. Apart from this, doing house chores is even one of my hobbies, that's why i really enjoy working in house and will be happy to assist you this summer.
I will be available anytime on weekends as per your requirements, while during weekdays from Monday to Friday my availability will be after 2:00 p.m. due to my classes. I hope this schedule matches your needs and hope to see you this coming summer.
Regards,
Ishpreet Singh

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0
You address all three points clearly: you offer help with household tasks, explain that you enjoy this work and have experience, and give a specific availability schedule. The examples of cleaning, washing dishes and clothes, and lawn care make your offer relevant, while the reason that the role suits your part-time schedule supports your interest. The letter also maintains an appropriate, polite purpose and closes suitably. To strengthen the response further, develop the practical offer a little more—for example, say which tasks you would be especially willing to take responsibility for or whether you can adjust your hours. This would make the ideas more fully supported rather than relying mainly on a list of chores and a general statement of enthusiasm.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0
The letter has a clear progression: you introduce your interest, describe your experience and motivation, then explain your availability before closing. Paragraphing helps distinguish these stages, and linking expressions such as “Moreover,” “Apart from this,” and “while” make the relationships between ideas easy to follow. The schedule is particularly clear because weekend availability is contrasted with weekday hours. Some linking is a little formulaic, however, and the first paragraph combines the advertisement, your interest, and the suitability of the role in quick succession. You could make the flow more natural by using fewer signposting phrases and connecting ideas through their meaning—for instance, linking your experience directly to the tasks you could undertake.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
Your vocabulary is adequate for the letter and includes relevant household terms such as “cleaning,” “doing dishes,” and “washing clothes,” as well as useful phrases like “part-time position” and “availability.” The meaning remains clear throughout. However, several choices are inaccurate or unnatural, which limits precision: “house chores” is better expressed as “household chores,” “moping” appears to mean “mopping,” and “doing lawn” is not a natural collocation. “I have an experience” is also an awkward phrase, while “from last couple of years” needs a more natural expression. Aim to use familiar vocabulary accurately and choose collocations that sound natural in a formal letter; this will improve clarity and control without requiring unusually advanced words.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and more complex sentence forms, including the reason clause in “which is why” and the contrast between weekend and weekday availability. Most ideas are understandable, and the schedule is expressed clearly. Some grammatical errors remain, particularly with articles, verb forms, and sentence construction. For example, “I have an experience” needs a different article pattern, and “I have been doing this work at my house from last couple of years” has problems with the tense and time expression. The sentence beginning “I completely understand this is a part-time position” would also be clearer with “that” after “understand.” Remember to capitalise “I” consistently and check apostrophes in “it’s.” More accurate control of these patterns would make the letter smoother.
