Mrs Barrett, an English-speaking woman who lives in your town, has advertised for someone to help her in her home for a few hours a day next summer.

You do NOT need to write any addresses.

Begin your letter as follows:

Dear Mrs Barrett,

Student answer (Band 6.5)

Dear Mrs Barrett,

I hope you are well.I am writing in response of an advertisement that you published for someone to assist you in your household chores for next summer.

I would be delighted if you could give me this opportunity. Since I am capable of performing various tasks, ranging from cleaning, organising closet to planting seedlings. I would be happy to prepare meal, provided that you allow me.

There are a couple of reasons. Most importantly, it would come-in-handy to earn an additionall income. Secondly, I am entirely free from academic work in upcoming summer so that lending a helping hand would benefit to utilise time in a productive way .What is more, I have already experience about Earlyhood childcare around 3 years so this would be helpful for your toddler as a nanny.

Regarding my availibility, I would be available from Monday to Friday from 8 am to 5 pm. Although I am commited with some personal responsibilties

on weekends, I have no problem to adjust my time on these days if you inform me in advance.

I look forward to hearing from you.

Yours Sincerely,

Ricky

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0

You address all three points clearly: you offer household help such as cleaning, organising and meal preparation, explain that you want extra income and have free time, and give weekday hours while noting possible weekend flexibility. The childcare experience is also relevant and adds a useful reason you may suit the household. Your purpose and polite tone remain clear throughout. To make the response more fully developed, clarify what you could do for the toddler and whether childcare is part of the help you are offering, rather than introducing it only as a final supporting point. You could also make the weekend arrangement more definite, since saying you can adjust if told in advance leaves the exact availability open. Overall, the task is addressed with relevant, supported ideas, though a few details are general.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The letter has a clear overall sequence: opening and purpose, proposed tasks, reasons for applying, availability, and a courteous close. Paragraphing helps the reader follow these stages, and phrases such as “Most importantly,” “Secondly,” and “Regarding my availability” signal relationships between ideas. This meets the lower-band expectation of coherent arrangement and shows some flexibility in linking points. However, a few transitions feel mechanical, and the sentence beginning “Since I am capable…” is separated from the main clause, interrupting the flow. The reasons paragraph also moves quickly from income to free time and then childcare. Connect these points more smoothly and ensure each sentence is complete; this would make progression more consistently natural.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

You use an adequate range for the letter, including task-relevant expressions such as “household chores,” “planting seedlings,” “lending a helping hand,” and “personal responsibilities.” These choices communicate your meaning, and you attempt some less common phrasing. However, several word-choice, collocation, and spelling errors reduce precision: “in response of” is not the natural phrase, “come-in-handy” is awkward in this context, and “additionall,” “availibility,” and “commited” are misspelled. “Earlyhood childcare” is also unclear. Aim for accurate, natural combinations rather than inserting elaborate expressions: for example, say “in response to your advertisement” and “earn extra income.” Proofreading spelling and checking collocations would make your vocabulary more reliable.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt a mix of simple and complex forms, including a conditional offer (“provided that you allow me”) and a concession about weekend availability (“Although I am…”). The message remains understandable, but some grammatical and punctuation errors are noticeable. “Since I am capable of performing various tasks…” is a dependent clause presented as a sentence fragment; join it to the following sentence. In “I have already experience,” the verb pattern should be “I already have experience,” and “would benefit to utilise time” needs a clearer grammatical construction, such as “would allow me to use my time productively.” There are also missing spaces after full stops and inconsistent punctuation. Check that each sentence has a complete main clause and review verb patterns and sentence boundaries.
