Student answer (Band 6.0)

Dear Mrs Barret,

I hope this letter finds you in good health. I am writing this letter to inform you that I recently came across the advertisement that you made to find someone to help you for few hours a day in next summer. Fortunately, I am available for the services because of summer break from college. I am interested for part time job to meet my expenses and tutition fees for next semester. The good thing is that I have experience of cooking and cleansing. In last summer break, I worked in a family restuarant for two months where, I learnt how to cook different cuisines particularly, Italian and Asian. Moreover, I also did laundry for my paternal aunt.

Please keep in mind that I study in college and working for my research project. I would be available only after 2:00 PM. In the morning, I would be busy for site visiting and research.

Please do not hesitate to contact me if you have any question.

Yours sincerely,

Samra Javed

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

You address the three main points: you offer cooking, cleaning and laundry help, explain that you want to cover college expenses and tuition, and state that you are available after 2:00 p.m. The restaurant experience and help for your aunt make your offer relevant and credible. However, availability is not fully clear: you say you are busy in the morning, but do not specify which days you can work or whether afternoons are available throughout the summer. The reason for wanting the job is clear, though it could be developed by linking your experience to the help Mrs Barrett needs. Clarifying your schedule and making the offer more directly responsive to her household needs would make the letter more complete.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The letter follows a sensible overall order: you introduce the advertisement, describe your experience and motivation, then explain your availability and close politely. This makes the message easy to follow. Linking expressions such as “Moreover” and “Please keep in mind” help connect points, although the transitions sometimes feel mechanical, and the first paragraph contains several different ideas in one block. Consider using separate paragraphs for your offer and experience, your motivation, and your schedule. The relationship between your college research and your availability could also be stated more directly. Overall, the organisation is coherent, but clearer paragraphing and smoother links between ideas would improve progression.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

You use an adequate range for this letter, including relevant terms such as “advertisement,” “part time job,” “research project,” “cuisines,” and “laundry.” These help communicate your experience and circumstances. Some word choices and collocations are inaccurate or unnatural, however: “cleansing” is not the usual term for household cleaning, “interested for” is not the natural phrase, and “site visiting” is unclear in this context. There are also spelling errors in “Barret,” “tutition,” and “restuarant.” These do not prevent understanding, but more accurate everyday vocabulary and careful proofreading would make the letter sound more natural and professional.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0

You use a mix of simple and more complex sentences, including the relative clause “where I learnt how to cook different cuisines” and the conditional-style phrase “Please do not hesitate to contact me.” Most of the message remains understandable, but some grammatical errors occur. For example, “for few hours a day in next summer” needs articles, and “I am interested for part time job” has an incorrect preposition and article pattern. In “I study in college and working for my research project,” the verb forms are not parallel. Review articles, prepositions and consistent verb forms, and check punctuation around introductory phrases such as “In last summer break.”
