Dear Mrs Barrett,

Student answer (Band 6.5)

Dear Mrs Barrett,

I am writing this letter that I am very interested on your advertisement you posted regarding the assistance you need at your home in next summer.

I am experienced with houshold works, and I can help you to do the lawn mower in your back yard. I have been doing this job since 2021, so I can assure you that you will not be disappointed.

The reason why I would like to do this job is because I love to help people with their yard as I have a great experience in this field. On top of that, it helps me to earn some extra cash during summer vacation at school.

I am available from first week of June to last week of July in the morning time. So, I would prefer to visit your place to help you out between 9:00 AM and 1:00 PM, if it works for you.

Let me know if the preferred time works for you. I look forward to hearing from you soon.

Sincerely yours,

Jack Smith

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

You address all three points: you offer help with the lawn, explain that you enjoy helping people and want extra income, and give a period and daily hours when you are available. The purpose of the letter is clear, and the specific morning time makes your offer practical. However, the help you propose is quite narrow, and the reason for wanting the work is only briefly explained. The availability details could also be clearer about when you are not available—for example, whether you cannot work outside June and July or outside the stated hours. This covers the task well overall, with some details less fully developed; adding another suitable household task and clarifying your unavailable times would make the response more complete.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0

The letter follows a clear, logical order: you introduce your interest, describe your experience and offer, explain your motivation, and then give your availability. Separate paragraphs help the reader follow each part, while phrases such as “On top of that” and “So” connect ideas. The closing is also appropriate for a formal enquiry. Some links are a little mechanical, and “So” does not create a particularly smooth transition into the proposed hours. You could improve the flow by using more precise links, such as “In terms of availability,” and by making the relationship between your experience and the tasks you can perform clearer. Overall, the organisation is easy to follow, with cohesion that could be more flexible.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use enough vocabulary to communicate the main points, including “advertisement,” “assistance,” “experienced,” and “available.” The tone is generally suitable for a letter to someone seeking help. However, several word choices and collocations are inaccurate or unnatural: “interested on” should be “interested in,” “houshold works” is misspelled and not idiomatic, and “do the lawn mower” does not express mowing the lawn. “In the morning time” is also less natural than “in the morning.” These choices make the language less precise, although the intended meaning is usually understandable. Focus on accurate household-task vocabulary and common collocations, and proofread spelling to strengthen clarity and naturalness.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0

You use a mix of simple and more developed sentence forms, including the reason clause “because I love to help people” and the conditional phrase “if it works for you.” Most sentences communicate their meaning, and the letter’s overall message remains clear. Some grammatical errors persist, particularly in the opening: “I am writing this letter that I am very interested…” needs a clearer structure, such as “I am writing to express my interest in…”. There are also issues with articles and prepositions in phrases such as “in next summer” and “from first week of June.” The sentence patterns are understandable but not consistently controlled. Practise accurate introductory clauses and article use, while retaining the range of sentence structures you already attempt.
