Dear Mrs Barrett,
Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Mrs Barret,
I hope you are doing well. I see your advertisement regarding help in your house in the coming summer. I am writing to tell you that I will be available to maintain your garden.
I am a student of horticulture at Vincent university. I will be free next summer, so I can maintain your garden in a professional way. I will teach you about gardening, as I am aware about the use of best soil, pesticides and the trimming of trees. In addition, your house is very near to my house, so this would be easy for me to come. All above, this will allow me to learn practical skills for my field.
Lastly, I want to make it clear that I will not charge any money for this. Because I am doing this for the learning purpose. I hope you will understand. I will come every two days a week for two hours.
I hope you will consider me for this work. You will enjoy my company.
Kind Regards,
Zubair.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
You address the main points by offering garden maintenance, explaining your horticulture studies and interest in gaining practical experience, and giving a proposed schedule. The reason for wanting the work is relevant, and your proximity to Mrs Barrett is a useful supporting detail. However, the offer focuses almost entirely on the garden, so it is not clear whether you could help with other household tasks. The availability is also incomplete: “every two days a week” is unclear, and you do not say when you would be unavailable. Develop these details more precisely and make the offer cover the home-help role more fully to strengthen the response.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The letter has a clear overall sequence: you introduce your offer, explain your background and motivation, then discuss payment and timing before closing. Paragraphing helps separate these points, and phrases such as “In addition” and “Lastly” guide the reader. Some connections are less smooth or precise, however. “All above” does not clearly link the preceding information to your motivation, while “Because I am doing this for the learning purpose” is separated from the sentence it explains. The schedule also appears after the payment point without a clear transition. Use more natural linking and group related details—especially availability and any days you cannot work—together.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You use an adequate range for the topic, including “horticulture,” “pesticides,” “trimming,” and “practical skills.” These choices make your background and proposed garden work clear, and the reader can understand your main message. Some expressions are imprecise or do not sound natural in this context, such as “help in your house,” “maintain your garden in a professional way,” and “for the learning purpose.” “Aware about” is also an awkward collocation. Aim for more precise, natural phrases for domestic assistance and motivation, and check collocations when using less common vocabulary. These improvements would make the letter sound more fluent and appropriately formal.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and more developed sentence forms, including the reason clause “as I am aware…” and the result clause “so this would be easy for me to come.” Most sentences communicate their meaning, but some grammatical errors remain. “Because I am doing this for the learning purpose” is a sentence fragment; connect it to the previous sentence. “I will come every two days a week” has an unclear time expression, and “your house is very near to my house” uses an awkward preposition pattern. There are also inconsistent spaces after punctuation. Practise joining dependent clauses to complete sentences and expressing schedules with clear, accurate structures.
