Dear Mrs Barrett,
Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Mrs Barret,
I recenly came across your adverstisment that you are looking for a candidate for house help for next summer. In my opinion, I am the best candidate for this role. I am currently enrolled hospatality and management course and would use my learnings and experience while working at your place.
Practically, I am interested in this job because it will be beneficial for both of us. I will gain hands on experience related to my studies and you will get services from someone who is not a complete fresher. Moreover, I am quite good at cooking and gardening. As well, I can do all the household chores without any extra help.
As I mentioned that I am a student at hospatility college and need to attend classes as well; I will be available from Monday to Thursday from 4 pm to 8 pm and Friday to Sunday, I am available full day.
I hope you will look at my attached resume and consider my application.
Regards,
Gurmeet kaur

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
You address all three points: you suggest cooking, gardening and household chores, explain that the role would give you experience related to your studies, and provide specific availability from Monday to Thursday and at weekends. The application is relevant and your interest is clear. However, the help you could offer is described broadly rather than with examples of particular tasks, and your availability does not say when you would be unavailable; the reader has to infer that classes prevent you from working earlier on weekdays. The resume reference also introduces an attachment without explaining its relevance. To strengthen the letter, give one or two concrete examples of duties and state your unavailable times explicitly, while keeping the useful details already included.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The letter has a clear overall arrangement: you introduce your application, explain your motivation and skills, give your schedule, and close politely. Paragraphing helps the reader follow these stages, and linking expressions such as “Moreover” and “As I mentioned” make relationships between ideas visible. Some connections are less smooth or precise, however. “Practically” does not clearly introduce the reason for applying, and “As well” is an awkward transition before the household duties. The sentence beginning “As I mentioned that” also makes the move from your studies to your schedule cumbersome. Use simpler, more direct links—for example, “I am interested in the role because…”—and connect your class commitments directly to the times you cannot work.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use a range of relevant vocabulary, including “hands on experience,” “household chores,” “gardening,” and “candidate,” so the reader can understand your skills and motivation. There are also attempts at more specific language, such as “hospitality and management course.” However, several spelling errors and unnatural or imprecise expressions reduce accuracy: “recenly,” “adverstisment,” “hospatality,” and “complete fresher” are examples. “Services from someone” is also vague in this context, and “learnings” is not a natural choice for knowledge gained through study. These issues do not prevent understanding, but more accurate spelling and natural collocations would make your application sound more professional. Proofread carefully and choose familiar, precise phrases over awkwardly ambitious wording.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
You use both simple sentences and more complex forms, including the reason clause in “because it will be beneficial for both of us” and the contrast between what you gain and what Mrs Barrett gains. Most of the message remains understandable, and errors rarely obscure your meaning. Some grammatical patterns are not controlled consistently. For example, “I am currently enrolled hospitality and management course” needs an article and a suitable preposition, while “As I mentioned that I am a student…” combines two incompatible constructions. The availability sentence also joins several clauses in a way that makes the structure awkward. Practise article and preposition patterns, and divide long sentences or use clear conjunctions to express the schedule accurately.
