Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Mrs Barrett,
I am writing to express my interest in your job advertisement on Indeed. I noticed that you require someone to help you at your home during summer for few hours.
I am currently looking for a part-time job while attending my university programme. I can help you for different activities. Such as , gardening, laundry as well as cooking healthy food. Apart from this work, I am very tidy and organised person, so I will assure for keeping all the things clean and hygienic while working with different objects in kitchen.
There are number of reasons why I would like to work at your place. Firstly, convenience, as my place is close to your house Where, I can walk. Thus, I can save my travelling expenses. Moreover, working part-time can support my education fees and accommodation.
My working hours would be Saturday and Sunday, also I would be available until late night on those days. I would not be available during weekdays due to my education and assignments.
Kindly contact me if you need any information and start day of my work,
Yours Sincerely,
Dona Jane.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
You address all three points: you offer help with gardening, laundry and cooking, explain that the work would support your education and save travel costs, and state that weekends suit you while weekdays do not. These details make your purpose clear and relevant. The response also uses an appropriate letter format and polite closing. Some points are less fully developed: for example, you could explain which tasks you are most confident doing or give specific weekend hours rather than saying you are available “until late night.” The reason that your home is nearby is useful, but could be linked more clearly to your reliability or punctuality. More precise details would make the offer more convincing.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The letter has a clear overall arrangement: you introduce your interest, describe the help you can provide, give reasons for applying, and finish with your availability and a request for contact. Paragraphing supports this progression, and connectors such as “Firstly” and “Moreover” help show relationships between ideas. Some linking is mechanical, however, and the fragment “Such as, gardening…” interrupts the flow from the preceding sentence. The final request is also difficult to follow because it combines asking for information and mentioning a start day without a clear structure. Use complete sentences and connect each paragraph’s ideas more smoothly to make the organisation feel more natural.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You use an adequate range for this letter, including relevant terms such as “part-time job,” “gardening,” “laundry,” “hygienic,” and “accommodation.” The reader can understand the services you offer and your reasons for applying. There are some inaccurate or unnatural choices, though: “help you for different activities” and “assure for keeping” do not express your meaning idiomatically, while “start day of my work” is unclear. “Healthy food” is understandable but less natural here than describing meal preparation. Aim for accurate collocations and concise phrasing, especially when explaining your duties and availability. These improvements would make your vocabulary more precise and natural.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt both simple and more developed sentence forms, including a reason clause with “while” and a result introduced by “Thus.” Most of the message remains understandable, but some grammatical errors and punctuation problems are noticeable. For example, “I am very tidy and organised person” needs an article, and “There are number of reasons” also requires one. The sentence beginning “Such as” is a fragment, and the comma before “also” in the availability sentence is not correctly used. There are also awkward sentence patterns that make the final request hard to interpret. Check articles, sentence boundaries and punctuation, and practise combining related ideas into complete sentences.
