Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Mrs Barrett,
I hope this letter finds you well. I am writing in response to your advertisement for assistance in your home a few hours a day next summer. Therfore, I am showing my interset and well-suited for this position as I can help with household tasks like cooking and cleaning.
I am responsible person who takes pride in maintaining a nit and clean space has experience doing this. This opportunity not only allows me to enhance my skills but also provides valuable experience.
I am keen on this occasion as I enjoy helping with cooking and cleaning, and working with a native English speaker like you will help improve my English skills.
I am avalilable Monday to Friday from 9 am to 5 pm, but not on weekends.
Thank you for considering my offer to assist you in your home during the summer. I look forward to the possibility of working with you next summer.
Yours faithfully,
Jaymin Chhaya

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
You address all three points and maintain a suitable, polite tone. You identify relevant duties—“cooking and cleaning”—and explain both your interest in helping and your wish to improve your English. You also give clear weekday hours and state that you are unavailable at weekends. This meets the task well, but some points are only partly developed: for example, you could specify other practical help you can offer or explain what experience makes you suitable. The reason about improving your English is clear, though adding more about why this particular work appeals to you would make the ideas more fully supported. The response already shows some development beyond a basic list, but fuller detail would strengthen it further.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The letter has a clear overall arrangement: it opens by referring to the advertisement, gives your suitability and reasons, then states your availability and closes politely. Paragraph breaks help distinguish these functions, and the reader can follow the main message. However, the progression within the opening is slightly awkward: “Therefore” does not connect naturally to the preceding sentence, and the next paragraph repeats the cooking-and-cleaning point rather than advancing the offer. Some links feel mechanical, while the relationship between your experience and your suitability could be made clearer. Use transitions only where they express a genuine connection, and organise each paragraph around a distinct point to make the flow more natural.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use an adequate range for this letter, including appropriate phrases such as “in response to your advertisement,” “takes pride in,” and “valuable experience.” The vocabulary communicates your main points, but several spelling and word-choice errors reduce accuracy: “Therfore,” “interset,” “nit,” and “avalilable” should be corrected. “Native English speaker” is understandable, though “English-speaking person” is more tactful and natural in this context. There is also some repetition of “cooking and cleaning,” which limits flexibility. Aim to proofread spelling carefully and vary the description of household duties—for example, mention meal preparation, tidying, or general household chores where accurate.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and more complex sentence forms, and most of the message remains easy to understand. The sentence beginning “I am writing in response…” is controlled, and the availability sentence clearly contrasts when you can and cannot work. Some grammatical errors remain. In “I am responsible person,” the article “a” is needed; “who takes pride in maintaining a nit and clean space has experience doing this” lacks a clear grammatical connection between the clauses. The phrase “showing my interest and well-suited” also needs parallel construction, such as “I am interested and believe I am well suited.” Check articles and ensure each clause has a clear subject and verb. More accurate complex sentences would improve control.
