Student answer (Band 6.5)

Dear Mrs Barrett,

I hope this letter finds you well. I am writing in response of advertisement for a part-time helper at your home for next summer.

I would like to suggest that I have a six months experience as a cleaner at a restaurant that will benefits you to keep your house clean and tidy. Addittionally, my basic cooking and gardening knowledge will be helpful for preparing dishes and to maintain your house garden.

I am very much interested in this job because it would be helpful for my financial stability and to refine my communication skill. This job will help me to earn and save some money for my University fees and while working with an english-speaking person I can improve my communication skill.

I will be available for work from Monday to Friday between 9 A.M to 6 P.M. On weekends I will not be available due to my personal commitments.

Thank you for considering my application and I will look forward to your response.

Yours faithfully,

Manveer Kaur Kaila.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0

You address all three points clearly: you offer cleaning, cooking and gardening help, explain that the work would support your university fees and improve your communication, and give weekday hours while ruling out weekends. The examples of restaurant cleaning experience and basic cooking and gardening knowledge make your offer relevant and credible. Your purpose remains clear throughout, and the letter has an appropriate opening and closing. To make the ideas more fully developed, specify how your experience would translate into particular household tasks or clarify whether the stated hours are flexible. The reason about improving communication is understandable, but could be linked more directly to working in an English-speaking home.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0

The letter is organised in a clear sequence: you introduce your application, describe the help you can offer, explain your motivation, and state your availability before closing. Paragraphing supports this progression, and linking expressions such as “Additionally” and “because” help connect related ideas. The reader can follow the message without difficulty. Some connections are slightly repetitive, particularly the repeated explanation that the job will help you earn money and improve your communication skills. You could make the progression more polished by combining those points once and using a clearer transition into your availability. Overall, the organisation is logical, with only minor opportunities to make cohesion less repetitive.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

Your vocabulary is adequate for the purpose, and phrases such as “financial stability,” “personal commitments,” and “considering my application” communicate your meaning appropriately. You also use relevant household terms, including “cleaner,” “cooking,” and “gardening.” However, several word-choice and collocation problems limit precision: “in response of advertisement” is not idiomatic, “will benefits you” is awkward, and “maintain your house garden” is unclear. There are also spelling and form issues, including “Addittionally” and “english-speaking.” Aim to use natural phrases such as “in response to your advertisement” and “keep your garden tidy,” and check spelling and capitalization carefully.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0

You use a mix of simple and more complex sentence forms, including a relative clause in “experience as a cleaner … that will benefits you” and a reason clause beginning “because.” Most of the message remains understandable, and the availability sentence communicates your schedule clearly. Some grammatical errors persist, however. For example, “I have a six months experience” needs a singular time expression and article adjustment, while “that will benefits” has incorrect verb agreement and form. In “from Monday to Friday between 9 A.M to 6 P.M,” the time range needs parallel prepositions. Review articles, agreement, and preposition patterns, and proofread longer sentences to improve accuracy.
